Primary Duties and
Responsibilities:
 

The Director of Study Abroad and Belmont USA provides administrative and programmatic leadership and oversight for all student study abroad and study away programs sponsored by Belmont University.

  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders (faculty, etc.), to administer and direct study abroad initiatives.
  • Oversee multiple functions of study abroad programs, including the recruitment and preparation of faculty and students; program development and assessment; budgeting and payroll; and communication and marketing.
  • Effectively communicate the mission and strategic priorities of the Office of Study Abroad, and seek to operationalize them in day-to-day work and programming.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and accountability to the Office of Study Abroad professional and student staff.
  • Engage with appropriate internal and external stakeholders to solicit feedback, plan for the future, and focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ensure appropriate risk management and mitigation policies and procedures are in place and followed.
  • Be available on call for crisis management associated with student international learning experiences at any time (24/7) whenever Belmont students are studying abroad.
  • Embrace collegiality and communication to offer a productive, collaborative, supportive, and effective working environment.
  • Advocate for formative international student learning experiences in a variety of internal and external settings, media, and situations.
  • Explore and develop new opportunities for student international learning experiences consistent with Belmont University’s global strategy.   
  • Manage all Study Abroad related scholarship programs.
  • Provide direction and support to Belmont USA programs and personnel.
  • Maintain relationships with operational counterparts and participate directly in contract negotiation with study abroad partners and service providers, including the management of direct student exchange programs.
  • Supervise the preparation and execution of budgets associated with study abroad initiatives.
  • Provide oversight of training and preparation for faculty directors as well as in-field support to faculty field directors, students, and staff.

  • Thinks critically and strategically, and attentive to adherence to University policies, which include safety, risk management, liability, and crisis management.
  • Possess knowledge of trends in international education and understanding of federal regulations and academic requirements as applied to program participants.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to respond to high-pressure situations.
    Ability to thrive in an environment of hard work.
  • Willingness to be available to manage crisis situations outside of normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Required Education Doctorate preferred, Master's degree required.
   
Required Experience Higher education administrative experience is required, with increasing levels of responsibility, and with specific experience facilitating student international learning opportunities. Excellent administrative and communication skills (written and oral), and familiarity with standard office technologies and software is also required.
