Position Summary
The Director of Student Services develops and provides programs and activities to promote and support the personal growth and professional development of the University of Incarnate Word’s Rosenberg School of Optometry (UIWRSO) students. This position is also responsible for initiatives in fostering UIWRSO alumni relations. The Director of Student Services reports directly to the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.

Job Duty Name Student Organizations and Professional Development
Description of Job Duties
  • Provide support to student organization leaders and members (e.g. training, event planning, budget matters, etc.).
  • Provide training to student leaders regarding organization policies.
  • Develop, administer, and manage the Student Organization Handbook; update as needed and publish annually.
  • Oversee and manage the Cashnet program for student organizations and sales transactions in the Student Affairs Office.
  • Oversee and manage the ENGAGE platform (student activities/ communications database) to include maintenance and training.
  • Oversee and manage messaging disseminated on the Student Affairs and UIW digital message boards.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Job Duty Name Career Development & Alumni Relations
Description of Job Duties
  • Oversee and manage RSO Job Board and career information.
  • Coordinate annual Career Fair in collaboration with faculty representatives.
  • Develop, administer, and manage the alumni communications plan to keep alumni connected to UIWRSO; coordinate with UIW Alumni Office as needed.
  • Develop, administer, and manage annual alumni programming at Optometry events for ODs and Residents; coordinate efforts with RSO Faculty Residency Director.
  • Develop, administer, and manage an Alumni Mentoring Program, building a connection with recruitment and continuing education.
  • Coordinate efforts with the RSO Enrollment Management Director and Continuing Education Director.
Job Duty Name Student Services and Special Events
Description of Job Duties
  • Provide student services and general information on student organizations, health services, career resources, counseling, etc.
  • Assist the Faculty Scholarship Committee with the dissemination of information regarding scholarship availability.
  • Provide leadership in planning or support of UIWRSO special events (e.g., Welcome Back, Eyeball, Grad Finale, Awards, Commencement, etc.).
  • Maintain a database of events, processes, and outcomes.
  • Develop tools to evaluate effectiveness of programming and events.
  • In collaboration with the Student Affairs Coordinator, coordinate the Big Sib/Lil Sib Mentoring program.
  • Represent RSO on UIW Special Committees (e.g., MLK, Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage, Month, Women’s History month, etc.).
  • Coordinate the planning of events and programs with other Student Affairs Staff.

  • Excellent organizational skills; especially in the areas of managing multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing and following up.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong self-motivated work ethic.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to projects and move projects forward.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite to include Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, & Publisher.
  • Working knowledge of Banner, including budget screens.
  • Strong understanding of Student Engagement and the ability to apply concepts to assist with new and established programs.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
Required Work Experience
At least five (5) years of related experience in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Education or related field.
  • Previous experience with project management in a Student Affairs or higher education setting.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Must have a valid driver license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.
Work Hours
Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with occasional extended hours and weekends to meet departmental and student programming needs.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to actively engage in events for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to regularly move about campus and event venues to actively engage faculty, staff, and potential/current students, as well as attend meetings on and off campus.
  • Ability to lift up to 10lbs for table set-up/tear-down at events.
  • Ability to reach overhead, bend, squat to retrieve office/marketing/events materials.
  • Ability to push/pull event/marketing carts holding up to 35 lbs.
