Director of Student Affairs (STDT SVC MGR 1) - SCHOOL OF NURSING
Job Summary
The Director of Student Affairs reports to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and is responsible for overseeing and managing various aspects of student life, support, and development. This position plays a crucial role, partnering closely with the Associate Dean for Students, in fostering a positive and supportive learning environment for students. Provides leadership and general management of teams in this division and supports students through the continuum of the student experience including but not limited to the outreach and recruitment components of the admissions process, student progressions, student success, advising, professionalism, financial aid, compliance, evaluations, collecting, analyzing and reporting cohort data, and the transition from student to alumni. The Director applies extensive knowledge of health professions education to manage all aspects of the Student Affairs teams. This role works to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, UC Davis partners, and the community it serves. The Director of Student Affairs works with many campus partners and students to maintain and achieve student success which requires diplomacy and discretion.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's in higher education, counseling, student affairs, a related field, or 5+ years of leadership experience in higher education.
• Supervisory experience to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance.
• Experience developing and implementing large scale programs and in an academic setting.
• Experience and skills interpreting policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Experience organizing and conducting workshops and making effective presentations to groups.
• Experience in the use of but not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, and other web-based tools.
• Demonstrated skills to manage complex systemic activities.
• Well-developed problem-solving skills; critical thinking skills to address unique problems without precedent and/or structure. Skills to manage complex processes and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
• Knowledge in the field(s) of diversity, equity, inclusion, justice and belonging, particularly, in relation to groups in an academic health center environment (faculty, staff, students) as well as local diverse communities.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and solve problems with a high degree of autonomy.
• Interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals at all levels within the organization to secure and/or provide information to clarify situations, resolve problems, and to foster and promote the goals of the organization.
• Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment that utilizes data, research, and best practices to research, analyze, and propose program initiatives and improvements.
• Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, disseminate, and report data regarding program outcomes and services.
• Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with others to deliver innovative programming and services; ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders within and outside of the organization; ability to work effectively with at-risk students; highly developed positive interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive personal information with appropriate discretion and judgment.
• Knowledge of learning theory, student success strategies, and best practices for student success.
• Ability to use technology effectively to track and analyze data and to support success initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's or doctoral degree in higher education, counseling, student affairs, a related field or 10+ years of leadership experience.
• Several years of experience in higher education, preferably in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of health professions education, accreditation standards, and healthcare trends.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Requires occasional overtime and/or alternate shifts on the evenings and weekends.
• Requires occasional same-day travel for regional recruitment events.
