Job Overview

The Director of Student Success within the College of Medicine (COM) at the University of Cincinnati is responsible for providing strategic leadership to enhance the undergraduate student experience through the college’s Center for Student Success. In addition to leading strategic efforts of Academic Advising and Student Success, the Director will also oversee various aspects of the undergraduate experience including recruitment, admissions, new student orientation, first and second year experience, experiential advising, and staff management and support, with a focus on creating an equitable, inclusive and holistic student experience and fostering a culture of excellence within a community of scholars. This role reports to the COM Associate Dean for Baccalaureate Education and requires close collaboration with the Program Directors for Public Health and Medical Sciences programs, among other key stakeholders. The Center for Student Success includes five FTE staff members, with anticipated growth in the number of staff.


Essential Functions
  • Serve as chief program officer responsible for Identifying, planning, and implementing strategic student success efforts associated with a holistic undergraduate student experience in the College of Medicine.
  • Provide leadership and direction for undergraduate Academic Advising, Student Success, and Retention for the College of Medicine, including ensuring a holistic student experience viewpoint when planning for student success and retention with a focus on creating an inclusive environment for all students.
  • Support student success through the incoming pipeline of students by overseeing staff for recruiting and admissions.
  • Work in close partnership with the COM Associate Dean for Baccalaureate Education and Program Directors of Public Health and Medical Sciences to ensure overall holistic success of COM undergraduate programs.
  • Responsible for overall recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, professional development, strategic planning, budget and administrative management, communication, and culture of COM Center for Student Success.
  • Direct supervision of all CSS staff positions reporting to the CSS director
  • Work with COM Associate Dean for Baccalaureate Education to cultivate staff as active members of a Community of Scholars.
  • Represent and advocate for COM with mission critical stakeholders across the University of Cincinnati campuses.
  • Ensure collaboration with UC Online.

Required Experience
  • Seven (7) years of academic advising or student services leadership.
  • Two (2) years supervision experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Demonstrated experience of at least three years in higher education administration and staff management.
  • Extensive experience in one or more areas of student success, such as recruiting, admissions, advising, or retention.
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning abilities.
  • Strong Interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
