University of Oklahoma Athletics is hiring a Director of Sports Science with the goal of delivering a high-quality sports science and recovery support service to OU student-athletes. The purpose of the position is to maximize resources while leading a team of sports science and recovery professionals, providing a high standard of service to Oklahoma student-athletes.
Essential Functions:
- Educate, collect, review, and provide in-depth analysis of metrics associated with optimal performance training and recovery for Oklahoma student-athletes
- Collaborate to review best practices with strength and conditioning professionals when determining the scientific application, efficiency, and effectiveness of programming, thereby maximizing performance
- Collaborative to review best practices for preparation and recovery. Identify appropriate programming and sequencing of available technologies to assist with maximizing recovery
- Collaborate to review best practices and analysis with the medical teams, (e.g., Athletic Medicine, Sports Nutrition and PROS), to ensure consistency and effectiveness of comprehensive programming efforts
- Educate and supervise a team of sports science staff at Oklahoma, ensuring consistency with scientific best practices and high professional standards
- Remain up to date with the advancements of knowledge and technologies available
- Educate, review, and collaborate best practices for available applications in sport science/recovery
- Plan, collect, record, review and monitor data trends on sport science initiatives and recovery
- Develop materials and presentations to share feedback with student-athletes, support staff, and coaches
- Attend weekly multidiscipline performance team meetings
- Attend staff/sport specific meetings, as necessary
- Meet with sport coaches, staff, and performance teams to identify opportunities for sport science
- Assist in tailoring training programs to achieve individual student-athletes or team needs
- Oversee and manage the Elite Recovery area
- Remain up to date with the latest technology and best practices for preparation and recovery
- Participate in personnel in-service training courses relevant to the role
- Implement a regular program of monitoring for training and recovery throughout the season
- Develop and maintain a student-athlete database of training/recovery monitoring information
Job Requirements
---
Education: Bachelor's Degree, and
- 36 months of established experience in collegiate athletics, professional sports organization, or closely related experience.
Skills:
- Proficient understanding and demonstration of data analytics and assessment tools
- Proficient in communicating verbally and in writing
- Proficient in communicating with a diverse group, using tact and diplomacy
- Proficient in developing educational materials to enhance the student-athlete experience
- Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and exercise prescription
- Willing and able to develop and maintain effective working relationships
- Willing and able to maintain confidentiality and to assume responsibility for information disseminated
- Willing and able to follow established institutional, conference, and NCAA policies and procedures
Preferences:
- Master's Degree in Health and Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology and/or comparable science degree program which includes courses such as anatomy, physiology, physics, biology, chemistry, biomechanics, athlete training, therapeutic exercise, and nutrition
- 5 years of experience working with athletes; experience in a collegiate setting
- Familiarity and compliance with NCAA Bylaws, HIPAA, and FERPA
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of the current athletic conference
- Certifications: CPR, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, AED, AFAA, NASM, CPT, PT, CES
Working Conditions:
- Ability to engage in repetitive motions and communicate effectively
- Exposure to extreme temperature changes. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions including in the heat and cold
Positions Directly Supervised: Assistant Director of Sports Science, and undergraduate students
