The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is seeking an experienced revenue cycle leader to serve as Director of Revenue Cycle Services. This position will serve a key role in the college with responsibility for directing all revenue cycle functions for the College's outpatient clinics. This professional possesses broad knowledge and expertise in principles, practices and theories across multiple disciplines in addition to experience in leading a team, project or program.  Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, this is a high-impact position in a fast-paced high-volume environment that ensures high level of service and support to our clinical faculty, staff, students and patients and timeliness, accuracy, and compliance in all billing and collection activities to maximize reimbursements that contribute to the financial strength of the college.
The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the fourth largest public dental school in the United States and it is the only state-supported dental school in Ohio. The college outpatient clinics are located in the Columbus area and collectively serve over 500 patients per day travelling from all over the State of Ohio.

Under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer and in close collaboration with the Associate Dean of Patient Care and Clinic Administration and clinical faculty leaders, the position is responsible for providing strategic and tactical leadership and continually assessing and improving all revenue cycle functions for the College of Dentistry's outpatient clinics. This position:

  • Heads multiple disciplines with significant institutional span.
  • Providing leadership, direction and development to two managers and their teams of revenue cycle professionals
  • Leads implementation of policies and procedures to achieve organizational goals; develops operational strategy
  • Decisions have serious impact on overall success or failure of revenue cycle and other stakeholders
  • Ensures timeliness and accuracy of patient revenue cycle processes to maximize reimbursement
  • Develops policies ad processes that maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of patient registration, scheduling of patient, faculty and student clinical appointments and clinical rotations, and clinic support functions
  • Providing leadership to entire team to provide a high level of patient service and satisfaction
  • Drives efficiency in operations and ensuring best practices in billing and collections that are in compliance with university, professional, state, and federal standards and all managed care agreements
  • Establishes team performance metrics and reports and other benchmarks to assess performance
  • Develops functional/financial targets related to accounts receivables, cash budgets and forecasts
  • Establishes fee-setting strategies and procedures
  • Acts as liaison with third-party payers
  • Provides data, reports and analysis of patient and third-party payers to determine trends and implementing plans of action to address potential issues and opportunities.
     

The position must develop and maintain excellent relationships with senior leaders, clinical leaders, faculty members and staff to ensure high flexibility and responsiveness to meet the clinical needs of the college. The Director will provide strong leadership to the revenue cycle management team, and will recruit, train, develop and mentor one of the largest staff teams in the college that demonstrates outstanding patient service, strong financial acumen, personal accountability and professionalism to achieve excellent patient satisfaction.
The successful candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills that demonstrate a strong ability to communicate with individuals at all levels; the ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data to reach sound conclusions and recommendations; advanced understanding of electronic health care record, patient management, and medical/dental billing systems; and demonstrated, highly effective leadership skills.
This position requires successful completion of background check(s) and drug and alcohol screening.
Education and Experience Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in health care administration, accounting, business or a related field; over 10 years of related experience; extensive knowledge of revenue cycle concepts and functions, medical or dental coding and handling complex claims: strong leadership skills; demonstrated ability to manage, train and develop large staff teams; ability to research and effectively interpret and comply with relevant federal/state health care regulations; excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; experience in creating and improving processes, strong understanding of managed care contracts; and advanced knowledge of electronic health record and patient management systems.
 

Desired: Master’s degree (MHA/MBA/MBOE); over 10 years revenue cycle experience; extensive knowledge of ICD-9-CM & ICD-10-CM coding, managed care contract negotiations.
