Job Summary
The Director of Research Technology and Marketing leads the design of new systems, features, and tools; collaboratively solves complex problems with multiple research teams and identifies opportunities for technical improvement and performance optimization; reviews and tests code to ensure appropriate standards are met. They will provide technical expertise for existing and emerging technologies, including public cloud offerings from Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, driving more strategic implementation opportunities, and serve as the technical consultant and resource for faculty research, teaching, and/or administrative projects.
The Director of Research Technology and Marketing manages and leads a team of technical and professional staff involved in the development of technical tools for digital outreach and data collection platforms and strategies as well as in-person approaches.
This at-will position is wholly or partially funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance.
Responsibilities
Develops and communicates a clear technology and marketing strategy aligned with the organization's goals.
Possesses a deep understanding of technology trends and tools relevant to marketing, such as digital marketing platforms, analytics tools, and CRM systems.
Leads a team of technology and marketing professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.
Identifies and implements innovative technology solutions that enhance marketing effectiveness and drive business growth.
Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, and IT, to ensure alignment and integration of technology and marketing initiatives.
Utilizes data and analytics to inform marketing strategies and optimize campaign performance.
Works with stakeholders.
Provides leadership of a team and oversight.
Vision for strategic direction for tool innovation.
Unit expert on technology solutions and approaches.
Manages employees by establishing annual performance goals, allocating resources, assessing annual performance, and determining individual merit, incentive and/or promotional increases. Provides technical oversight and develops standards, guidelines, and processes for application systems.
Creates plans to translate business requirements into well-designed applications while balancing user and business needs, technical competencies, industry developments, and time constraints.
Advises decisions on project and infrastructure needs, including the evaluation of server technologies, languages, platforms, and frameworks. Develops timelines and project plans for the team.
Formulates and defines specifications for complex installations, maintenance, and upgrades. Identifies and analyzes performance and capacity issues.
Performs other related work as needed.

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Biology, IT, Marketing, or other relevant field.
Experience:
At least four (4) years of experience in a health research environment and managing the development of new assets.
Experience working with administrative team members as it pertains to HR, budgetary and other institutional, funding agency, and state/federal guidelines and regulations.
Experience leading teams and managing technical and professional employees.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
Knowledge of programming code used for population studies, including python.
Knowledge of common analytic platforms used for population studies.
Ability to build websites.
Preferred Competencies
Ability to program data collection, management, and integration platforms.
Ability to make informed and timely decisions that benefit the team and the organization.
Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities, maintaining a focus on achieving goals.
Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, translating technical concepts into layman's terms and vice versa.
