Job Summary:

Under the direction of the CU Medicine, Community Practice Division, the Director of Quality, Safety, and Infection Control develops the vision and direction for the clinical quality, implementation of evidence-based medicine practice guidelines and processes, and safety of patient care delivered by all CU School of Medicine practices. This position is responsible for developing programs to ensure compliance with federal and state regulatory and licensure requirements, and continual cultural improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and foster effective collaboration between clinical departments and divisions to achieve an integrated approach to quality, safety, and value-based care objectives.

Utilizes knowledge of the healthcare environment in the Community Practice Division in:

  • Overseeing clinical practice and care delivery systems with a focus on innovation, patient safety, performance improvement, and risk management.
  • Collaboration with affiliated CU Medicine compliance and Professional and University Risk departments to identify gaps, implement action plans, and develop strategies to achieve clinical compliance.
  • Participation in construction and renovation projects. Partners with Environmental Health and Safety, CU Medicine Property Manager in facility contracting to identify potential life safety issues. Oversees environmental rounds and assures compliance with national and/or professional standards (e.g. fire doors, ventilation, gases, cleaning).
  • Responsible for developing relationships with local security and CU emergency response and police agencies.
  • Oversees and standardizes security access control of CU CPD clinics. Routinely conducts emergency response drills.
  • Fosters effective collaboration between clinical departments and divisions for an integrated approach regarding environmental health and safety.

Hazardous materials:

    • Pharmaceutical storage, management, and disposal.
    • Exposure Control Plans.
  • Infection Prevention Practices.
    • High-Level Disinfection, Products IFUs, current standards and processes per AAMI, APIC, CDC, etc.
  • Workplace safety and violence prevention:
    • Emergency Medical Response procedures.
    • Employee workplace safety.
  • Collaboration with CU Radiation and laser safety programs, CDPHE regulations, hazardous and biosafety clinical needs including records of education and competency of faculty and staff:
    • Ensures educational tools available for staff, providers, and patients.
    • Ensures appropriate protective equipment for radiology and laser utilization.
  • Demonstrates leadership by articulating a clear vision for the delivery of patient care and the practice of clinical and non-clinical roles:
    • Ensuring mechanisms of identification to ethical standards and advocacy of the clinical perspective.
    • Management of Clinical Education nurses:
      • Provides synchronous and asynchronous learning and training to diverse multispecialty clinics on applicable care delivery, safety, and regulatory topics.
      • Development of reports with data and results to the senior management team on relevant, quality, clinical education, health, and safety activities including possible risks in processes, procedures, and devices.
    • Ensure full and accurate health and safety and training records are maintained through partnership with Environmental Health and Safety, clinical Educators-approved learning management systems, and the Office of Information Technology for CU School of Medicine.
  • Coordinates efforts with EH&S Biosafety Coordinator and appropriate vendors ensuring assets have appropriate preventative maintenance, ongoing repairs, and evaluation for lifespan. Review products, and equipment before purchasing for maintenance contracting. Provides an annual report to senior leadership regarding work orders, response time, equipment expenses, and replacement recommendations.
  • Manages all equipment, product, and medication recalls. Develops a communication plan and backup strategy for recalls.
  • Maintains knowledge and current standards in all areas described above.
  • Resource for all providers, staff, and clinics.

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Business, Healthcare, or another closely related field.
  • Five (5) years of responsible progressive leadership, management, or educational experience in a medical environment.
  • Four (4) years of experience within a hospital or ambulatory care setting which includes quality, patient safety, or quality management experience.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's in Nursing or business or healthcare or another closely related field.
  • Association for Practitioners Infection Control (APIC) training course or equivalent desired.
  • Certified Measurement Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), clinical Performance and Reporting (CPRM), or other Quality Certification.
  • Registered Nurse (RN), State of Colorado.
  • Experience with electronic health records.

Conditions of Employment: 

  • Position requires the ability to work in multiple spaces (on and off-site).
  • RN License or Licensure/Certification in a healthcare-related profession
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required or obtained within 6 months of employment

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $116,608 to $168,149.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
