Job Description:

The Pre-Collegiate Outreach Director shall develop professional programs and relationships with school officials and teachers to expand community partnerships that will facilitate SUNY Poly's implementation and delivery of K-12 STEAM based engaging educational experiences at all levels of learning. The Director will develop engaging educational experiences and programming on campus such as events, fairs, clinics, field trips and site visits from schools. The Director will also plan site visits and presentations to local schools or non-profit groups. In addition, the Director will be responsible and accountable for coordinating experiential learning applications from concept, and communications with school officials/teachers, through execution and recording of relevant data for reporting purposes.

The Director will also be responsible for the management of all aspects of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) activities and events associated with SUNY Polytechnic Institute including cultivating team participation, sponsors, mentors, and volunteers, coordinating logistics of events and budgeting to ensure the success and growth of FIRST programming.

  • Serve as the primary contact for relationship development and coordination with K-12 Administrators and teachers to help SUNY Poly enhance STEAM education in the K-12 curriculum.
  • Develop robust, year-round FIRST robotics programming, competitions and events focused on building STEAM literacy to prepare K-12 students for careers of the future by providing them with rigorous, real-world opportunities for hands-on skill building. 
  • Propose, coordinate and execute on-campus, year-round activities/events, camps, fairs and programming designed to enhance STEAM education in collaboration with the deans and faculty.
  • Coordinate with Admissions to provide middle and high school students with campus tours and programming in collaboration with college faculty.
  • Work with the Communications and Marketing department to create marketing materials communication strategies to promote awareness and involvement. 
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned. Provide leadership, oversight and direction to direct reports to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the Institution's goals and strategies.  Design and implement operating strategies, plans and procedures to assure smooth functioning of SUNY Poly's Development Department.  Lead employees for maximum performance and dedication. Complete performance management feedback and goals per requirements.   

Salary: $90,000-$100,000

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization or significant professional experience in relevant discipline or field of work.
  • Strong understanding of the needs of partners in K-12 schools and on the SUNY Poly campus;
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with faculty and administrators;
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed;
  • Strong organization, project management and facilitation skills;
  • Ability to enter, monitor and interpret events data accurately;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills; and aptitude to learn new systems as needed.
