Job Summary

The Fisch College of Pharmacy at The University of Texas at Tyler is looking to hire for two (2) roles - a Director of Inpatient Pharmacy Practice Experience and a Director of Outpatient Pharmacy Experience. Each director will also serve as a full-time non-tenure track Clinical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor. The Director manages introductory and advanced practice experiences that are conducted in inpatient pharmacy practice settings such as hospital, acute care facilities, skilled nursing facilities, etc. The Director oversees activities that are associated with development and implementation of current strategies and goals. The Director works closely with students, practice sites, and preceptors to optimize student success in experiential education in the inpatient setting. As a faculty member, the Director will engage in teaching, service, and scholarship. The Director is a member of the Office of Experiential Education and collaborates with the Assistant/Associate Dean for Experiential Education, other Director(s) of Pharmacy Practice Experiences, and the Experiential Education Coordinator.

 

Essential Functions

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a liaison between the Fisch College of Pharmacy and preceptors/sites for hospital and inpatient-based pharmacy practice sites.
  • Assist in the identification and recruitment of preceptors and sites to support the needs of experiential education.
  • Conduct practice site visits.
  • Assist in the development and training of preceptors and sites.
  • Provide support to students and preceptors while promoting a professional and helpful environment when working with all stakeholders.
  • Oversee student performance and promote student success in introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experiences, including monitoring of academic and professional progression.
  • Ensure compliance with state regulations, site requirements, and internal requirements with regard to preceptors, students, and sites.
  • Assist with rotation scheduling as assigned.
  • Coordinate courses for Introductory and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences as assigned.
  • Evaluate and monitor quality assurance measures in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Experiential Education as needed.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives, innovation, and advancements within the Office of Experiential Education.
  • Complete and submit reports to the Assistant/Associate Dean for Experiential Education as needed.
  • Teach in experiential education coursework and other coursework as assigned.
  • Serve as a preceptor for experiential education coursework as needed.
  • Engage in professional development specific to experiential education.
  • Engage in research and scholarship specific to experiential education.
  • Collaborate with appropriate committees, faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Serve on University and/or College committees as assigned.
  • Promote a safe and respectful academic environment for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Positively contribute to the culture of the Office and Experiential Education and College.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Associate Dean for Experiential Education.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S. Pharm.) or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.
  • Experience as a practicing pharmacist in the outpatient setting.
  • Experience as a pharmacist preceptor.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-graduate pharmacy residency training.
  • Experience in a directorship role or other supervisory experience.
  • Previous experience in directing experiential education.
  • Previous experience in academia.

 

Required License/Certification

  • A valid Texas pharmacist license with ability to practice pharmacy in the Texas.
  • A valid Texas pharmacist preceptor license.
  • Basic Life Support.

 

Preferred License/Certification

  • APhA Immunization Certification.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
