The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The Director of Operations at the Center for Patient Safety Science (CPSS) will play a pivotal role in advancing the Center's mission. Newly established by Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC), CPSS is dedicated to fostering the science and tools needed to achieve zero patient harm. By assembling diverse teams of clinicians, researchers, data scientists, statisticians, and others, the Center aims to address critical challenges in patient safety and enhance the quality of care not only at CUIMC/NewYork-Presbyterian but also globally.
Reporting to the CPSS Director and Deputy Director, the Director of Operations will lead a multidisciplinary team comprising clinicians, researchers, data scientists, research staff, and students. This role involves ensuring the timely and successful execution of research projects and educational initiatives in collaboration with the CPSS team. Additionally, the Director of Operations will oversee the financial management of the center and collaborate with NYP Quality and Patient Safety, as well as Columbia Doctors Quality and Safety, to engage CUIMC students and trainees in active quality and safety projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead the annual update of the strategic plan
- Collaborate closely with the CPSS Director and Deputy Director to fulfill the center's mission and vision
- Oversee and coordinate with Assistant Directors to drive the success of CPSS projects and initiatives
- Manage the budget effectively
- Engage with medical students, nursing students, house staff, and faculty to foster discussions on patient safety and facilitate their involvement in CPSS or CUIMC projects
- Perform additional related duties as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience
- Advance degree would substitute or experience
- Experience in quality and patient safety
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience leading quality projects and teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a health system's quality and patient safety department
Other Requirements
- Participation in the medical surveillance program
- Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
- Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
