Posting Context Statement
The Director of Marketing reports directly to the Senior Director of Marketing and Creative Services and is located in the University Communications and Marketing (UCM) department at the University of Idaho (U of I). This position is responsible for the oversight of the U of I’s centralized marketing team and is an integral part of the U of I’s marketing efforts.
Position Overview
This position leads a team of creative professionals to advance the institution’s mission through the development, execution and dissemination of exciting, innovative, and effective marketing concepts and campaigns across multiple platforms. This position is the primary leader responsible for building brand awareness and affinity for the university across all platforms and mediums while leading the overall strategy for major marketing efforts. This position plays a central role in achieving the institution’s goal of ensuring effective engagement with the university’s many core constituents.
Duties may include:
  • Build internal capacity, strategy and cross-campus support for all U of I campaigns
  • Develop and implement paid marketing initiatives
  • Lead the team through concept, messaging and development of campaigns that reinforce the U of I’s brand position
  • Build brand awareness and affinity with key audiences
  • Work closely with the University of Communications & Marketing (UCM) communications team to ensure message consistency through all earned media initiatives
  • Create a team-oriented work environment, motivating staff and cultivating productive relationships across campus to innovate, collaborate, and reach and exceed stated goals
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications


Required Experience
Five years working in the marketing / brand development space to include the following:
  • Writing marketing plans
  • Analyzing marketing data
  • Directing creative development
  • Supervising and directing the work of individuals or leading project teams
  • Managing media buys
  • Web authoring experience
  • Social Media management
  • Content Marketing story identification, development and versioning specific to published platform audiences
  • Graphic Design experience
  • Photo and video shoot art direction
  • Agency management
  • Analytics software Experience
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Creative Design, Graphic Design, or Business; four additional years of experience (for a total of nine years) may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree

Required Other
  • Must be able to work nonstandard business hours on location in the execution of campaign deliverables
  • Must be able to travel for off-campus events
Additional Preferred
  • Experience producing personalized marketing content for segmented audiences
  • Experience using content management systems (CMS), customer relationship management (CRM) systems and other distribution tools, including web and bulk email
  • Knowledge of university advancement and fundraising practices and corresponding marketing strategies
  • Experience using computer software applications for photo editing, social media platforms, content posts and project management
  • Hootsuite certification
  • Demonstrable written and oral communication, presentation and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to enhancing diversity through inclusive design and language
  • Understanding of enrollment best practices that include undergrad recruitment, transfer students, grad students, dual credit and digital / online learners
  • Understanding of SEO best practices with a portfolio of data to support experience
  • Experience spinning up concepts and scaling to meet the needs of the brand
