Job Summary
 

This position oversees the university's library services, embodying a innovative approach to library management and academic support.


Responsibilities
 

Directs library operations. (70%)

Develops and implements comprehensive, forward-thinking strategic plans to align with the university's mission and goals.

Establishes and enforces policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective library services.

Develops and manages library schedules to accommodate diverse user needs.

Provides leadership and guidance to library faculty and staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.

Reviews and approves library payroll, ensuring equitable compensation for all staff.

Guides collection development activities, leveraging emerging technologies and trends to enhance resource accessibility.

Manages library budget requests and expenditures, prioritizing investments in accordance with academic priorities.

Initiates, executes, and evaluates strategic initiatives in alignment with university objectives.

Leads participation in collaborative programs within the University System of Georgia (USG) and beyond.

Produces various reports to assess library performance and inform decision-making.

Designs and executes dynamic marketing and public relations strategies to promote library services effectively.

Represents the library on university committees, advocating for resources and initiatives that support academic excellence.

 

Supervises and participates in the library instruction program. (20%)

 

Teaches LIBR1101, UNIV1000, and LIBR3202 courses, integrating information literacy and research skills into the curriculum.

Develops specialized sessions on media literacy theory to equip students with critical thinking skills in a digital age.

Expands the curriculum and develops new classes to address evolving academic and technological landscapes.

 

Supports OER initiatives and serves as Library Champion for Affordable Learning Georgia (5%)

 

Teaches LIBR1101, UNIV1000, and LIBR3202 courses, integrating information literacy and research skills into the curriculum.

Develops specialized sessions on media literacy theory to equip students with critical thinking skills in a digital age.

Expands the curriculum and develops new classes to address evolving academic and technological landscapes.

 

Performs a variety of related duties. (5%)


Required Qualifications
 

Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited university.

More than five years of experience in library services and academic support.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
 

Comprehensive knowledge of modern library practices, standards, and emerging trends.

Familiarity with university policies, personnel management, and budgetary processes.

Understanding of higher education practices and standards, including accreditation requirements.

Proficiency in library collection development principles and resource acquisition strategies.

Strong delegation skills to empower staff and foster a culture of innovation.

Competence in utilizing computers and relevant software for administrative and academic purposes.

Exceptional decision-making and problem-solving abilities.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
