Job Description:

The Director of Housing and Residence Life provides student-centered leadership, strategic vision, and comprehensive management for a vibrant 1,000-bed residential community covering nine residential facilities.  Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director of Housing and Residence Life leads an inclusive community that nurtures student belonging. The Director shares the general responsibility of being a leader within the Division of Student Affairs, serving as an agent of student success and co-curricular learning.   The Director is responsible for the department's overall philosophy, goal setting, vision, and strategic planning, to promote student success and holistic development.

Duties will include:

  • Direct the operations of the residence life program including occupancy management, assignment strategies and processes, departmental budgets, and billing
  • Supervise, train, and provide leadership for the housing and residence life team including the assistant director, coordinator of operations, administrative personnel, two master's level residence life area coordinators, graduate assistants, and paraprofessional student leaders
  • Serve as the residence life liaison and partner to various campus constituencies including admissions, information technology, public safety, business office, special events, accessibility resources, student activities, student success center, off-campus property management, and facilities personnel 
  • Communicate both orally and in writing with parents, students, campus stakeholders, and external partners regarding housing processes and procedures 
  • Serve as a retention and student success champion strategically leveraging our student success platform in tandem with campus colleagues  
  • Actively participate in the student conduct program, providing oversight for residential student conduct processes; serving as a campus student conduct officer, investigator, and advocate as appropriate
  • Collaborate with marketing and communication colleagues to produce a robust residence life communication campaign, in addition to on-going communication with parents, students, and campus stakeholders  
  • Train professional colleagues on crisis response and serve on-call, providing referrals to campus constituencies as appropriate. The Director shares on-call responsibilities with 5-7 other Director/Dean level colleagues
  • Serve on various divisional and institutional committees including Bellarmine University's Care Team 
  • Optional teaching opportunities available
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements:

Master's degree in student affairs, higher education administration, non-profit management, or comparable degree. Minimum of five years full-time residence life experience. Strong understanding of current higher education trends. Ability to effectively work with students, parents, and colleagues, navigating complex issues and processes. Experience in recruiting, hiring, and training staff, demonstrated commitment to fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment. Available for an anticipated June 1 start.
