The Pitt Greensburg Facilities Management department is responsible for all facets of physical plant safety, safety code compliance and ensuring all hazards are removed or minimized. The Pitt Greensburg Facilities Management department is responsible for project management of new construction and renovations and/or ongoing maintenance to existing structures, performing engineering functions, and developing and implementing internal policies to comply with federal, state, local and University regulations. The department oversees a varied workforce which includes skilled workers, custodians and grounds keepers engaged in the care of campus buildings and grounds. Departmental workloads vary by season (winter - snow/ice removal) (summer - renovation/grounds projects/upgrades). Resolving and correcting unsafe work practices leading to unsafe work environments must be a high priority.  



Job Summary

Manages and evaluates all University facilities' maintenance operations and personnel. Creates emergency response manuals and service guides and ensures coordinated emergency responses. Facilitates all policies, procedures, and initiatives related to facilities and maintenance. Develops budgets; pays invoices and selects vendors.


Essential Functions 

Must be able to determine the work necessary to have the campus operating efficiently and safely.  This will include:

- assigning duties to labor and custodial staff and following up after work is completed;

- developing and administering the campus facilities budget;

- submitting project proposals working closely with Pittsburgh campus Facilities Management department and Purchasing department on large-scale project bidding; 

- participating in negotiations for campus labor agreements, reviewing and approving time for union personnel, and following bidding rules/procedures;

- managing purchases of materials, supplies and equipment and maintaining appropriate records in accordance with University and campus policies and procedures.   


Physical Effort 

The Director must be able to walk all areas of the Pitt Greensburg campus to inspect and monitor buildings and outside areas.  These inspections may include climbing stairs and ladders, walking on flat or pitched roofs, and helping to lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds.  The Director must have a valid driver's license and to drive both on-road and off-road vehicles, automatic and standard shift.  Must be proficient with a computer, Microsoft Office Suite products, telephone and two-way radio.

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related technical degree or combination of relevant/equivalent experience is required. Master's degree in relevant field is a plus. Must have supervisory experience.
Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with potential of evening and weekend hours needed based on campus needs
Work Arrangement Hybrid: Combination of On-Campus and Remote work as determined by the department.
