About the Opportunity
The UNC System Office Human Resources Division is recruiting for a new Director of Executive Search and Leadership Programs who is primarily responsible for managing and supporting executive search and recruitment for constituent institutions of the UNC System. The Director will also support programs for executive development at the highest levels of UNC leadership systemwide and build a strong and differentiated bench and talent pipeline.

This role supports the university system’s focus on enterprise-wide executive leadership development, which is intended to ensure the UNC system has the leadership capabilities necessary today and for the future. The work of this position is performed with a high level of independence of action with oversight by the Senior Associate Vice President for Leadership and Talent Development.

The UNC System Office is in Raleigh, North Carolina.  This position will be expected to work onsite with a hybrid schedule and travel statewide to campuses as needed.

About the UNC System Office
The UNC System Office includes the offices of the President and other senior administrators of the multi-campus University of North Carolina System. The UNC System is a treasured public institution dedicated to serving the people of North Carolina through world-class teaching, research, and community engagement. Today, nearly 250,000 students are enrolled in our 16 universities across the state and at the NC School of Science and Mathematics. System Office staff is responsible for executing the policies of the UNC Board of Governors and providing University-wide leadership in the areas of academic affairs, business and financial management, long-range planning, student affairs, research, legal affairs, and government relations. The UNC System Office also has administrative oversight of a number of University affiliates, including PBS North Carolina, the North Carolina Arboretum, the NC State Education Assistance Authority, and University of North Carolina Press.

About the Team
The Human Resources division serves as a strategic partner to the President UNC System Office senior leadership, Board of Governors, and to the chief human resources officers and their HR offices of the 17 constituent institutions of the University regarding policy and process implementation, HR management, benefit management, classification and compensation, employee relations, talent acquisition and human resources information systems (HRIS). Human Resources administers UNC Policies for employees exempt from the State Human Resource Act on behalf of the President and the Board; HR also administers delegated human resources responsibilities in collaboration with the North Carolina Office of State Human Resources for employees Subject to the Human Resources Act. The division is also responsible for management of a shared services payroll for nine constituent institutions, maintenance of the UNC System HR DataMart for personnel data, and the oversight and execution of the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) and other University-specific benefit programs.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills
Master’s degree in higher education leadership, human resources, business, industrial psychology, organization development, or a related field and five (5) years of related experience in higher education or senior-level recruiting; or equivalent combination of education and experience with bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution may be considered.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills
* Prior experience in or with higher education and/or public sector organizations is desirable but not required. * Experience in leveraging talent management tools, dashboards, and other techniques to inform and support a comprehensive and sustainable program of leadership development; * Knowledge of program design methodologies that produce successful, results-driven programs applicable to senior leadership; * Proven ability to manage complex projects and programs; * Strong client consulting, change management and relationship-building skills, and exceptional oral and written communication skills; * Intellectual curiosity, results orientation, action-oriented, innovative spirit, organizational savvy, tact and flexibility; * Ability to effectively deal with multiple deadlines, organizational complexity, and a variety of leadership styles and proficiencies.
