Office hours are primarily weekdays, but responsibilities require additional hours and flexibility that can include evenings and weekends.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS:

Working with the Education Program Chair, this position is responsible for providing (a) leadership and coordination of the certification process for all routes within the Educator Preparation Program (EPP) (includes all traditional and non-traditional routes at all sites) and (b) program accountability for internal reporting and state and federal reporting.

Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Interviews, supervises, and directs all hiring and training of test proctors for Longview, McKinney, and Houston
  • Recommends adjustments for rates of pay and hours for test proctors for Longview, McKinney, and Houston

Program Responsibilities

  • Serves as university Educator Certification Officer and liaison to State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) and Texas Education Agency (TEA), ensuring program compliance regarding certification issues
  • Maintains membership and involvement in the Texas Association of Certification Officers (TACO), Texas Directors of Field Experience (TDFE), Texas Coordinators for Teacher Certification Testing (TCTCT) and other professional organizations
  • Develops positive external relationships with the education community, which includes public and private school administration, other institutions with EPPs, and SBEC/TEA personnel
  • Integrates and aligns the certification process within and among all educator preparation routes (undergraduate and graduate, online & in person) to achieve desired outcomes
  • Directs processes related to educator certification, extending to personnel in all routes of the EPP, at all sites (admissions, approval to test, TExES exams, intern/probationary certificates, standard certificates, and candidate transfers)
  • Maintains record of candidates who have applied, completed, been recommended, and any required follow-up
  • Keeps accurate records of student test eligibility, tests taken and tests completed.
  • Enters clinical experience records and observations into the TEA system
  • Deactivates/reactivates certificates with required reporting to SBEC
  • Verifies requirements for standard certification have been met and recommends candidates for Texas educator credentials to SBEC
  • Directs the updating of Educator Certification webpages to ensure timely content related to the program
  • Stays informed on the TAC/SBEC rule/certification changes
  • Completes data collection, verification, and submission for state and federal reporting including ASEP reporting and Title II
  • Performs additional program tasks, as requested by the program chairs within the School of Education
QUALIFICATIONS:

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Masters in Education
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with 3 years teaching experience
  • Some experience in educator preparation is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with databases and Excel
  • Ability to work effectively in a team relationship with faculty, staff, and members of the LeTourneau University community.
