THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION 

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:   The Director of Educational Data in the College of Dentistry (CoD) develops systems to collect, manage, and disseminate, when appropriate, all forms of educational data in the College of Dentistry. This includes but is not limited to all assessment data from College of Dentistry students (didactic, laboratory and clinical) and developing and disseminating reports for UTHSC Administration and accrediting agencies using this data to demonstrate institutional effectiveness. This position is responsible for developing mechanisms for collecting other forms of data such as survey data as needed and students’ evaluation of instruction.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Conducts academic research on the utilization of academic technologies for dental education to improve teaching and learning processes and student progress through CoD academic programs.
  • Develops systems (solutions) to systematically collect, analyze, and track data in the CoD including but not limited to competency data, assessment of student learning outcomes, course evaluation data, and strategic planning outcomes.
  • Supervises Educational Technology Specialist regarding all aspects of Examsoft and Learning Management System administration in CoD.
  • Prepares necessary reports for UTHSC Administration and accrediting bodies and agencies.
  • Assists Deans and Chairs with the implementation of systems to document compliance with various assessment/accreditation standards within the departments for continuous improvement on innovative practices and solutions.
  • Collaborates with the executive team on strategic planning regarding the use of information/education technologies and the possible uses across the College’s spectrum for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with Educational Technology Specialists to develop systems to onboard new faculty and staff on academic technologies and instructional methods to launch into teaching.
  • Implements strategies to maximize the use of LMS for teaching and learning success in dental education.
  • Ensures compliance with FERPA and HIPAA regarding data management.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

     

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

    EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree. (Master’s Degree is preferred.) (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

    EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of experience working with educational technologies in a higher education environment.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    ·         Knowledge and ability to use MS Office Suite applications.

    ·         Knowledge and ability to effectively use Blackboard Ultra, Examsoft, or other learning management systems and exam software applications.

    ·         Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.

    ·         Knowledge of emerging information/education technology trends.

    ·         Ability to use and develop applications with relational databases is preferred.

    ·         Ability to analyze data with statistical software applications is preferred. 

    WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends. May require occasional overnight travel.
