Primary Purpose of Department
The Office of External Relations and Partnerships includes the offices of Constituent Relations, Corporate Engagement and Economic Development. The department is responsible for fostering, supporting, and expanding the University’s relationships with the federal, state, regional, and local government officials and agencies, as well as with the business and corporate community, strengthening the University in its mission to deliver on its promise as the region’s premier urban research university.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Director of Economic Development Partnerships works with university allies to support the recruitment and expansion of companies in the Charlotte region and beyond. Work of this unit includes assisting the economic development partners in recruiting and retaining businesses. This includes building relationships with economic development partners, highlighting the University’s research and talent aligned to growing industries.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Director of Economic Development Partnerships is responsible for creating a robust economic development framework by collaborating and coordinating with internal stakeholders and leveraging University marketing and communication materials to advance the University’s role in supporting economic development efforts with external allies in the Charlotte region.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Proven experience in economic development, business development, or related roles.
  • Knowledge of local and regional economic trends and resources.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong knowledge of an academic structure.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Familiarity with government policies, regulations, and programs related to economic development.
  • Highly organized, self-starter, who can work collaboratively and independently.
  • Ability to research, analyze, compile and present information and data.
  • Deep knowledge of UNC Charlotte or academic structures.
