About the Position:
Disability Support Services at California State University, Fullerton is a civil rights office committed to providing students with disabilities access and an equal opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and abilities. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Director, Disability Support Services (Administrator II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under the general supervision and direction of the AVP for Student Affairs, the Director provides operations management and professional leadership to Disability Support Services (DSS) as well as ensuring that disability student services are coordinated and in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and the CSU Chancellor Executive Orders. Provides administrative leadership for the department, including management of daily operations of the department, the development of strategic plans, and the evaluation of programs and services. Develops office policies, procedures and protocols and identifies personnel needs and resources; handles crisis and other special situations; initiates and leads staff meetings, staff training and development; selects, trains, supervises and evaluates staff at both the professional and support staff levels. The Director communicates and collaborates effectively with administrators, faculty, staff and students regarding academic accommodations for students with disabilities, the general needs of students with disabilities, maintains highly sensitive and confidential records (i.e., FERPA and HIPAA) and oversees specialized data entry and confidential reporting within the department and university systems (e.g., Clockwork, Common Management System, etc.), and administers departmental budgets. Serves as the primary campus point of contact on matters related academic accommodations in alignment with the ADA and Office of Civil Rights. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in in Public Administration, Counseling, Special Education, Rehabilitation, or a closely related field and a minimum of five years of experience effectively managing a program or department and developing new programs and/or initiatives, preferably in disability services, is required. Demonstrated expertise in the many facets of disability (both visible and invisible) including assessment of accommodation needs, rehabilitation, independent living, medical terminology, legal issues, assistive technology and other resources is preferred. Demonstrated expertise in Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act as it relates to students preferred. Knowledge of federal and state disability support systems. Demonstrates ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Thorough knowledge of relevant CSU system policies, state and federal laws, and implementing regulations including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), 1990 (as amended). Experience working with and sensitivity towards, students with varied disabilities and the provision of appropriate support services. Understanding of the overall legal rights of students with disabilities, including the US Department of Education Office for Civil Rights grievance procedures. Experience with and sensitivity to working with multi-cultural, low-income, underrepresented, and disabled populations. Experience working with students at the post-secondary level.

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.
