Summary of Duties:

Washington State University (WSU) College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS) Extension is seeking a full-time Director of Development 1 to support fundraising campaigns and donor relationship management. Key responsibilities include donor database management and CRM integration; annual giving pipeline growth and retention; donor appreciation efforts; cultivating new, current, and former donors to encourage ongoing contributions; seeking out opportunities for financial support through grants and sponsorships; and annual giving initiatives including #GivingTuesday and WSU’s Day of Giving, #CougsGive. Other key activities include development marketing and community outreach.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years Advancement experience or comparable experience in sales, marketing, or public relations that has involved direct face-to-face contact with clients, customers, prospective customers, and/or members of the public. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience.  Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.

  • Experience demonstrating strong interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining internal and external relationships.

  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate, develop and steward client/donor relationships

  • Understanding of proposal development and writing, fundraising and/or client development principles and techniques; project management skills; and relevant event planning/management.

  • Demonstrated success in proposal writing and submission.

  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid driver’s license at time of hire. Evening and weekend work required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fundraising experience closing major gifts of $25,000 and above.

  • Evidence of ability to plan and execute a fundraising project from conception to realization.

  • Experience engaging faculty and translating their research into layman terms for prospective donors.

  • Experience with alumni/donor database applications.

  • Knowledge of land-grant university extension programs, particularly 4-H.

Monthly Salary:

$4,508.70 - $6,767.06

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
