Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The University of North Carolina, School of Law aspires to be a great public law school. Position Summary
The Director for Development will report to the Assistant Dean for Development. S/he is responsible for personal gift portfolio of 75-100 prospects to include donor identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Also responsible for the strategic leadership and oversight of the school’s comprehensive annual giving program designed to expand the donors for the law school and increase the operational annual funds to $1.5 million, and beyond, in support of the law school’s top funding needs. The Director for Development will also manage and oversee at least one of the UNC Law Alumni Association leadership volunteer committee(s). The Director for Development will collaborate closely with the Assistant Dean for Development to build a culture of high achievement and accountability across the law school advancement team, as well as strong, professional relationships with the University Development Office and campus partners throughout the University.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with three years or greater of related professional experience; for candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and five years or greater of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. The Director for Development will be a polished advancement professional who knows and understands the nature and purpose of public higher education. Ability to manage programs with individual expectations, deliverables, and accountability as well as work as a part of a team collaboratively. Excellent oral and written communication skills. High level of creativity, initiative, and motivation. Team oriented and willingness to set a leadership example for all members of the advancement team.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Leading candidates will have: A minimum of five or more years of experience with demonstrated successful experience and effectiveness in annual giving, donor relations, communications, project management, donor identification and solicitation, preferably in a higher education setting.
