Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Craniofacial and Surgical Care provides a diverse approach to treatment for patients with craniofacial or oral and maxillofacial conditions, including those with multiple or complex oral health problems. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery discipline functions within the Adams School of Dentistry and UNC Hospitals and specializes in implant surgery, jaw tumors and disease, trauma surgery, cleft palates, facial cosmetic surgery and much more.
Position Summary
The Director of Clinical Operations is responsible the operational performance of the Craniofacial and Surgical Care Unit, providing leadership and direction for the staff, while building and maintaining productive relationships with referring/receiving providers and key stakeholders. 
This position is responsible for developing and implementing growth and improvement strategies to optimize overall patient flow and inpatient capacity. Leading a team of professionals dedicated to performance management and execution, this position is responsible for driving operational success in patient flow through the effective deployment of team resources required to facilitate change and improvement. The position is expected to develop the project management, analytical, and coaching team necessary to meet the needs of identified growth and improvement strategies in patient flow, as well as the strategic priorities of the executive team of UNC Hospitals. 
The position is accountable for clinical outcomes, human capital management, budget management, organizational stewardship, and quality/process improvement initiatives to ensure a high level of quality consistent with organizational standards. In addition, the position will collaborate and maintain positive relationships with UNC Hospitals and Adam’s School of Dentistry leadership teams and staff.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
First time manager with Masters and 5+ years of relevant experience; or Bachelors with at least 1-2 yrs supervisory experience and 5+ years of relevant experience
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Considerable supervisory experience. 
Extensive knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, patient financial services, cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and governmental accounting and financial reporting standards. 
Extensive knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems. 
Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations. 
Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections. 
Working knowledge of short and long-term budgeting and forecasting. 
Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. 
Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects. 
Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings. 
Ability to make effective presentations and handle challenging questions. Comfortable and articulate speaking to executives and groups of providers.
Understands and applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.
Demonstrates exceptional critical thinking skills. 
Leadership, organizational, analytical and computer skills. 
Proficient at building and maintaining diplomatic, professional and collaborative relationships at all levels, including through times of conflict resolution, service recovery, and managing change.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
