Job Summary

Career Services at Illinois State University empowers and supports Redbirds to achieve their professional goals by providing resources, experiences, and industry connections. The department provides a wide variety of events, programs, and services that prepare students and alumni for job/internship searches and career possibilities. The Director of Career Services provides a comprehensive program of career exploration, development, and readiness services. The Director provides overall vision, leadership, and fiscal management for Career Services through strong internal and external partnerships with constituents.


Salary Rate / Pay Rate

Commensurate with experience.


Required Qualifications

1. A Master's degree in an appropriate field of study such as Counseling, Human Resources, Higher Education, or related discipline.

2. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a college/university career services office or similar management-related experience in the career development or employment field.

3. Demonstrated experience providing visionary leadership and strategic direction for career development and readiness programs and services.

4. Comprehensive understanding of career development/counseling theories, best practices, and trends in the field. Strong knowledge with labor markets, employer expectations, and emerging job sectors.

5. Must possess excellent management and budget experience, employer relations/development experience, as well as excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation skills.

6. Experience in building and leading a diverse team of professionals, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

7. An understanding of and commitment to diversity and inclusion in the delivery of programs and services.

8. Proven ability to develop and maintain partnerships with employers, alumni, faculty, and other stakeholders to enhance career opportunities for students.

9. Established commitment to student success and holistic development, with a focus on empowering students to make informed career decisions and achieve their professional goals.

10. A Valid driver's license.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a comparable college or university career center


Work Hours

8 – 4:30; some evenings and weekends


Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:
1. Remain at a workstation for extended periods
2. Move about in various locations on and off campus as needed to complete day-to-day work
3. Effectively communicate on a daily basis
