Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
University Career Services (UCS) provides personalized and innovative career education to empower student success and transformation. Our vision is for all UNC-Chapel Hill students to create lives of purpose and prosperity in alignment with their personal goals. Our services include individual career advising, internship and employment search assistance, workshops on career readiness, on-campus interviewing, graduate school preparation, internship and job listings, and occupational information.
Position Summary
A Sign-On Bonus of $10,000 is available for the successful applicant to be paid in the first month on university payroll. This EHRA Sign-On Bonus (including eligibility criteria) is subject to pertinent university and UNC system policies.
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
Under the direction of the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Career Development, the Director of Career Education serves as a primary member of the University Career Services leadership team. The Director serves as a university-wide expert on career education and leads the office’s strategic efforts to engage students in career development activities. These efforts should increase all UNC-CH students’ career awareness, career readiness, and engagement with potential career opportunities. This role will craft and execute a robust vision for career education, act as a connector across the university to facilitate relationships, grow support for key initiatives and partnerships, and drive results. The Director oversees the cultivation of a team, and campus community, that strives to prepare students for their future careers.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.

* Ability to utilize technology in the delivery of student programs.
* Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with campus leaders, faculty, staff, and students across a variety of units and divisions.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Master’s degree in Higher Education, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Counseling, Business, or a related field
* A minimum of ten (10) years of job-related experience in university career services, counseling, advising, talent development, or training & development.
* A minimum of five (5) years of experience supervising medium to large teams of professional staff in a matrixed organization.
* Experience leading change and innovation, resulting in a high level of performance outcomes.
* Expertise and understanding of career education, career readiness, career exploration, and emerging trends within the career development field.
* Budget management skills.
* Working knowledge of online recruiting systems (e.g., Handshake, Symplicity, etc.).
* Valid NC Driver’s License or eligibility to hold a valid NC Driver’s License
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
