Position Summary

The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for Director of Alumni Engagement and Volunteer USI.

This position will provide leadership for a comprehensive alumni engagement and volunteer program that complements and supports the mission of the University of Southern Indiana.

Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Lead the strategic direction and operations of the Alumni Engagement & Volunteer USI Office, including programming, budgeting, and personnel.
  • Serve as the primary advocate of the University with alumni around the globe. Engage alumni using a variety of methods to foster a culture of alumni loyalty, participation, and giving.
  • Activate alumni chapters and establish new ones. Identify alumni in geographical areas to lead and participate in chapter initiatives and alumni special interest groups.
  • Manage the Alumni Council and Volunteer USI Advisory Council while maintaining communication with its members to facilitate impactful involvement.
  • Oversee communications and events of the Alumni Engagement & Volunteer USI Office.
  • Provide innovative direction to the alumni mentor program.
  • Facilitate intentional interactions with alumni.
  • Coordinate with colleges and departments to establish and enhance alumni programming. Seek collaboration for alumni programming on campus and in the community. Engage the entire campus community in alumni relations.
  • Identify, cultivate, engage, and recognize alumni and University volunteers for greater involvement in the University and their communities.
  • Work closely with the Development Office regarding fundraising initiatives involving alumni. Provide continuous recommendations for invitations of support.
  • Manage the continuous collection of alumni contact information and assist with its use within a CRM.
  • Establish and maintain relations with university departments.
  • Ensure all pertinent information about the alumni office and Volunteer USI is sent to University Archives as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of five years experience in the area of alumni engagement and/or development.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • An understanding of the mission and culture of the University of Southern Indiana.
  • Must possess excellent people management, collaboration, and team building skills.
  • Must possess superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working with committees, boards of directors, and ability to direct volunteer activities.
  • Must possess a valid US driver’s license.
