We are seeking a forward-thinking and agile Director of AI Solutions and Architecture to join our Enterprise Technology (ET) AI Acceleration team. This role will be a key component of our AI leadership team helping us to advance our quest in harnessing the power of AI to enhance learning, success, and access. This dynamic role bridges the gap between cutting-edge AI technologies and practical, impactful educational and operational experiences. 

The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in identifying and vetting AI solutions from leading and emergent companies, ensuring these solutions are not only technically sound but also sustainable, secure, and aligned with our charter. This role will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including our dedicated AI Acceleration team and stakeholders at all levels of the Enterprise to implement these solutions and assess their outcomes and return on investment (ROI). Specifically, this role will be responsible for leading the integration of AI into enterprise systems in partnership with Enterprise Technology and other stakeholders. Moreover, this role serves as a vital link between our AI team and the broader Enterprise Technology community, guiding the evolution of leveraging AI tools and platforms developed in-house and fostering a culture of AI integration across all aspects of our work. Essential Duties

  • Lead the identification, vetting, and implementation of AI solutions that enhance educational and operational experiences, with a focus on technical architecture, sustainability, and security.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including the AI team and faculty researchers, to evaluate AI solutions' effectiveness, outcomes, and ROI.
  • Serve as the liaison between the ET AI team and the IT Engineering team, facilitating the understanding and adoption of AI tools and platforms.
  • Provide leadership in the integration of AI into enterprise systems in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Advocate for and support the engineering team's technical and cultural journey towards incorporating AI into their work, ensuring alignment with the Enterprise’s charter.
  • Manage and oversee projects from conception to completion, ensuring they meet quality standards, engineering requirements, security standards, timelines, and budget requirements.
  • Stay abreast of emerging AI technologies and educational trends to ensure ASU remains a leader in innovative, impactful AI solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field AND eight (8) years of related experience as a computing professional, which includes five (5) years of management/supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, AI, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in AI solution development and implementation, preferably in higher education or EdTech.
  • Strong technical background in AI, machine learning, and related technologies, with the ability to evaluate and vet solutions for efficacy and security.
  • Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, with a talent for building relationships with both internal teams and external partners.
  • A strategic thinker with a passion for leveraging technology to improve educational outcomes and student success.
  • Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities of integrating AI into various aspects of organizational operations and culture.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
