Position Summary
The Director of Administration and Operations in the College of Nursing has oversight of the College’s operations and administrative services. These include human resources; academic and staff personnel support; facilities, infrastructure and capital project management; fiscal and business management; and other administrative duties as assigned.
The position reports directly to the Dean and works closely with the Dean in the overall administration of the College. S/he collaborates with the College of Nursing Associate and Assistant Deans, Department Chairs, Directors, faculty and staff to advance the College’s strategic initiatives. External to the College, the position collaborates with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Budget and Financial Compliance, as well as with peer personnel throughout UNMC, and represents the College in various University-level councils.
The CON is a unit focused on professional education of nurses (undergraduate and graduate), research, clinical practice and internal and external service activities. The combined size of the faculty, staff and research personnel is approximately 250 at five sites in Nebraska (Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, Scottsbluff and Norfolk). The operation areas are general administration including building supervision, asset management, finance and fiscal affairs, and human resources, and assigned internal and external College relations. As such, the position contributes to key decision making of the CON and impacts both the short-term and long-term success of the CON.

General Business:

Services/faculty practice:
1. Ability to collaborate and manage across multiple organizations.
2. Understanding of principles, methods and procedures of modern health care administration and organization, including linkage systems with other health organizations.
3. Administrative issues involved in the operation of nursing services.
Research:
1. Understanding of pre-award budget preparation and related regulations such as Medicare coverage analysis, coordination of IRB or IACUC protocols, justifications.
2. Understanding of post-award administration including set-up process, reconciliation, regular review, progress reports and close-out process.
3. Knowledge of and compliance with award-specific and relevant federal, state and local laws and regulations to include A-21 and A-133 requirements.
4. Understanding of strategic planning for research enterprise of College in collaboration with Associate Dean for Research.
5. Ability to act as liaison with sponsors, subcontractors, and collaborators across the enterprise.
Education:
1. General understanding of academic program accreditation standards, academic services processes, and ability to interface effectively with information and reporting systems.
2. Ability to interface effectively with student populations.
3. Ability to interface effectively with faculty.
4. General knowledge and awareness of educator and student rights and responsibilities.
Preferred Education: Master's degree

Progressively responsible leadership in operations/administrative services of an Academic Health Science Center.  Experience in finance, budget and proforma development.
