Job Summary

The Director of Academic Advising at Purdue University in Indianapolis plays a pivotal role in the planning, assessment, and support of advising activities for all undergraduate academic programs in Indianapolis. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of University Undergraduate Academic Advising (UUAA) and working in collaboration with counterparts in West Lafayette, this position ensures the continuity of services, integrity of advising policies and procedures, and the development of advisor programming.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans for academic advising that align with the overall mission and goals of Purdue University, Indianapolis.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with counterparts in West Lafayette and academic units to establish effective communication channels and ensure consistent advising services.
  • Policy Oversight: Maintain the integrity of advising policies and procedures, keeping abreast of industry best practices, and implementing changes as necessary.
  • Advisor Development: Design and implement comprehensive advisor development programs to enhance the skills and effectiveness of academic advisors.
  • Reporting and Accountability: Provide regular reports to the Executive Director of UUAA and collaborate with the Director of Teaching and Learning Programs in Indianapolis to ensure seamless coordination.
  • Student Success: Champion initiatives that contribute to student success, retention, and timely graduation through effective academic advising.

  

Working with UUAA, this position will:

 

  • Provide support to academic advisors in all units at the Indianapolis location.
  • Coordinate with the Executive Director to guide advising policy and practice for students, staff, and faculty in Indianapolis.
  • Serve as a member of the Advising Leadership Team (ALT), representing advising in Indianapolis, to guide the development of advising policy and initiatives for the entire university.
  • Contribute to furthering the growth and philosophy of Purdue Advising and advising as a profession.
  • Provide data reports for advising and student services information areas.
  • Contribute to the professional development of Purdue Indianapolis advisors by working with the Assistant Director of Professional Development and the ADaPT team.
  • Participate in professional development and engage with NACADA opportunities.
  • Maintain a small caseload to remain active in the practice.


Hybrid work will be considered for this position based on the candidate’s location, and interest

 

Some travel will be required, including two meetings per month at the West Lafayette location for the Advising Leadership Team meetings.

Starting salary range is $85K, commensurate with experience.

 

Required:

  • Must have an earned graduate or professional degree in a field relevant to the position
  • Seven years of relevant work experience with student advising
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Must be able to collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and parents 
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and administer academic policy necessary
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi‐task, establish priorities, and resolve conflict
  • Basic skills in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 

 

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of programs and majors at Purdue University
