The Director, Network Engineering oversees the design, deployment, management, and maintenance of the enterprise-wide architecture required to provide secure and highly available cloud, SaaS, and on-premise services utilized by the College. The Director provides management and direction to a team of network professionals and manages vendor relationships to further the goals of the College.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Collaborate with CTO and IT leadership, and business leaders in the development of network strategies. Ensure networks and systems teams implement these strategies effectively and in a timely fashion.
  • Mitigate network-related risks by developing and implementing robust security protocols and disaster recovery plans in conjunction with Security team.
  • Lead a team of network engineers to collaboratively work with IT technical leads and program leaders in the development and integration of new technology into the College’s educational and administrative ecosystem.
  • Establish department plans, goals, performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and facilitate professional growth of staff.  Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Responsible for the operations, maintenance, and enhancements to the College’s VoIP services, card access, and security camera infrastructure based on network roadmap.
  • Lead project lifecycle for the implementation of network related wiring plans, upgrades/installation of LAN/WAN hardware, equipment and software purchases, and network documentation.
  • Keep current with emerging network technologies, cybersecurity threats, and emerging technologies to inform strategic decisions.
  • Drive network strategy for utilizing industry best practices, technologies, and reference architectures in development of new network initiatives and personnel development.
  • Continuously identify and prioritize expenditures, while optimizing efforts, and minimizing total cost of ownership. 
  • Manage team projects and delegates tasks as necessary.
  • Develop and manage the network engineering budget and ensure that all network projects are delivered on-time and within budget.
  • Develop relationships and collaborate with external vendors, service providers, and partners to optimize network services.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.

WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems or equivalent work experience.

A minimum of 15+ years in leadership roles with a significant amount of experience leading architecture, engineering and support teams; 15+ years of proven experience with Ethernet networks and 10+ years managing large scale network projects; at least 5 years managing a budget; working with cloud platforms and technologies is a benefit.

Proven talent for building highly functional teams.

Ability to work with ethnically, culturally, and socially diverse students, staff and faculty

Develop and maintain vertical and horizontal working relationships promoting cooperation among one's staff and peers.

Must have strong project management skills.

Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges.

Proven expertise in configuring and deploying enterprise class network switches, routers, firewalls, and associated equipment.

Proven experience with VoIP infrastructure required.

Extensive experience of providing technical direction to project development teams.

Demonstrated management experience with the ability to determine and deploy resources to achieve goals on time and in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.

HOW AND WHERE YOU WILL WORK

Occasional nights and weekend work required.

Must have had a valid unrestricted U.S. Driver’s License for one year and maintain throughout employment an insurable (as determined by the College’s insurer’s criteria) or a satisfactory driving record; must successfully complete and pass the College’s vehicle training program within the first 60 days of employment; annual or more frequent review of employee’s driving record based on the College insurer’s criteria; and safety training as required by management.

Will require some lifting and work on ladders and in confined spaces

ADDITIONAL SKILLS YOU MAY HAVE

  • Cisco and Checkpoint  experience a plus.
  • Experience with card access and network security camera and NVR systems a plus.
