Director, Managed Care Administration - Managed Care Contracting - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Exempt) (Non-Union)

The Director, Managed Care Administration is responsible for interfacing with senior leadership and will involve overseeing and coordinating the activities of a dynamic team, ensuring seamless collaboration and effective communication across departments. The Director will play a key role in strategic initiatives, fostering a cohesive work environment, and facilitating efficient decision-making processes. This role is also responsible for shaping and influencing market-based strategy and action plans to ensure Keck Medicine of USC/USC Care meets key business performance goals, including growth, value-based penetration, managed care/payor collaborations, affordability, and quality. The Director of Administration will serve as a strategic partner to the Chief Contracting and Managed Care Officer and will play a key role in driving transformative initiatives, identifying opportunities and mitigating potential risks. The Director will possess exceptional leadership skills, a proven track record of influencing outcomes, and the ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for ensuring the timely completion of critical department initiatives.
  • Serve as a proxy in moments when the Chief Contracting and Managed Care Officer is unable to be present at meetings.
  • Overseeing department operations, project timelines, business developments, and employee productivity while building a highly inclusive culture to ensure team members thrive
  • Influence and collaborate with colleagues across the organization, even without direct authority, to achieve common goals and objectives.
  • Serve as a senior-level strategic partner that assists executive leadership accomplish their most important priorities by assisting with or delegating on their behalf.
  • Possess a keen understanding of organizational dynamics and adapt strategies accordingly to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  • Maintain effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Works with system-level department leaders, both clinical and business, to improve knowledge of the managed care contracting and value-based service organizations.
  • Leads the department’s annual goal process by providing oversight to other department leaders to develop and format clear and aspirational goals that align with system-level goals.
  • Responsible for information flow between the executive leaders and other management staff.
  • Responsible for exercising extreme discretion of highly sensitive information.
  • Serves as a sounding board to the executive leaders for new ideas and problem-solving techniques.
  • Developing actionable business strategies, objectives, and plans that ensure alignment with short- and long-term objectives developed in tandem with Chief Contracting Officer.
  • Oversee the patient engagement program within the Value-Based Service Organization.
  • Strategically managing, organizing, and coordinating employees from different departments and locations to ensure efficiency
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 8 years Healthcare business and analysis with experience in business planning, strategy and process improvement.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with stakeholders and administrators to build support for change and sustainability efforts.
  • Process Improvement / Optimization.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in managing multiple simultaneous initiatives that involve both internal and external partners.
  • Ability to coordinate diverse, cross-functional teams so that all individuals and teams work in concert to meet partnership objectives.
  • Demonstrate ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with a high level of professionalism and discretion.
  • Develop strong Internal and External client relationship management. Great interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with staff at all levels.
  • Proven problem-solving skills from problem assessment to solution selection.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, providing options and recommendations relating to resolving issues, mitigating risks, and resolving escalated items.
  • Strong risk identification and mitigation skills.
  • Strong Internal and External client relationship management.
  • Knowledge of Managed Care environment and contracts.
  • Experience in value-based programs and managed care and payer relations.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. Strong communication skills and the ability to report on an executive level on deliverables and projects.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, including MS project and MS PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The annual base salary range for this position is $133,120.00 - $219,648.00. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
