Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Director of the Honors College at UNCW serves to enrich, direct and support the Honors program while strengthening and sustaining a diverse Honors community among UNCW’s students, faculty and staff. In serving this mission, the Director oversees all student recruitment efforts and provides oversight in planning the Honors College curriculum and programs.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of three years or greater of related professional experience.
  • Hold a terminal degree in their respective field and be tenured at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
  • Experience with an Honors program.
  • Have a record of active scholarship and effective teaching.
  • Evidence of contributions to Honors curricular and co-curricular experiences, including developing interdisciplinary and applied offerings, including study abroad/global engagement, and applied learning experiences.
  • Demonstrated skills in effective communication and the ability to engage all Honors partners (students, faculty, administrators, community partners, alumni).
  • Experience building diverse and inclusive learning environments and partnering with campus and community partners to create such environments.
  • Supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated passion for and values that embrace a holistic and student-centered approach to education.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • The initiation and development of new programs and curriculum, including hiring and supervising students working in peer-to-peer programs (e.g., student advisors, ambassadors, and mentors).
  • Strategic work with diversity and inclusion partners to create a welcoming environment and sense of belonging centered around the honors college experience.
  • Partnering with internal constituents to effectively leverage existing resources, and negotiate for additional resources in alignment with the Honors and UNCW strategic plans, such as advocating for and supporting a robust four-year Honors curriculum across all disciplines.
  • Recruitment, enrollment, and financial aid experience, including recruiting off-campus
  • Coordination and oversight of academic, peer, and professional advising
  • Global Honors strategies, including working with campus study abroad offices and global partners and recruiting international faculty to teach in Honors.
  • Supervisory and leadership experience working with Honors faculty, staff, and students across units.
