About the opportunity:


The Director of Event Management & Strategy leads an event staff team who are responsible for all College events and conference management that promote the vision and strategy of the college. The position will provide strategic planning, execution and management of all College events, commencement celebrations, faculty conferences and symposiums. The Director will develop an event strategy that is forged in collaboration with the Dean and the college’s senior leadership team around key priorities for the College such as growing faculty research and visibility, global campus engagement, and supporting rollout of new industry partnership model all of which will rely heavily on events and conferences to support their success. Develop and implement a comprehensive policy and procedure guide to be used college wide. Collaborate with various key stakeholders in the college and across the network including the college’s senior leadership team.



Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

1-Event Policy, Procedure + Strategy


  • Develop and execute event policy and procedure guide;

  • Ensure college goals, mission and branding are weaved through all policies and strategy;

  • Cultivate relationships with various stakeholders and groups within the college to understand the needs and goals each group has and how an event strategy can help assist in reaching those goals. This can be done through communication and working groups with senior leadership and stakeholders. The goal will be to have a more strategic approach to the event calendar that allows the college to more; effectively hit goals for admissions, research, recruitment and hiring.

  • Work with the research administration team to comprehend the needs of grants and faculty conferences. This will help the college grow research related events and conferences.


2- Team Management + Training

  • Build and develop event team to support the evolving college needs. The college is looking for a team that is able to offer their expertise in event management and advisement;

  • Manage the team in training from the ground up. It will be critical to have a leader that fully understands all levels of planning an event at the University. In addition to on the job training, documentation of event procedures will be created and leveraged;

  • Lead and execute a strategic plan for the event team to follow that will build audience growth, day of event yield rates, community interest, and growth in attendance from historically hard to reach groups.


3-Budget Management + Forecasting

  • Manage all event related budgets, monthly reconciliation and quarterly + yearly forecasting.

  • Responsible for all contracting and invoicing needs.

  • Monthly Procard reconciliation.

  • Liaison with the Finance Team.


4- Data Management + Analysis

  • Investigate, analyze, recommend, and implement an event management system.

  • Develop a consistent approach for all events and the data we collect.

  • Report out to senior leadership the data and trends from events and make recommendations from the data to lead the strategy for events.

5- Supervision

  • 2 full time employees and student, Temp employees as required.





Minimum Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of event planning, budgets and data management

  • Conceptual and client-service skills, leading to effective problem solving.

  • Organizational and project management skills: including the ability to work with multiple key constituents, tight schedules, deadline, and the capacity to succeed in an environment of rapidly shifting priorities.

  • Interpersonal skills: effective communication and interaction with internal and external colleagues, college, and university senior leadership, creative partners, and vendors

  • Ability to learn and apply new skills to improve the team performance and work outputs, as well as management of all data and resources.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Ability to strategize and prioritize creative solutions to problems.

  • Sound decision making capabilities using experience, judgment, and institutional knowledge to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Knowledge and skills required for this job are normally acquired through a bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of

  • experience, including development of strategy, policies, and procedures around event and conference planning/execution.
