Director, Construction Management/Project Delivery - System Construction and Space - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Exempt) (Non-Union)

The Director of Construction Management/Project Delivery organizes and directs the planning and construction of Health System projects across Keck Medicine of USC facilities and sites. The incumbent demonstrates effective leadership, communication, regulatory compliance, and collaboration to ensure successful project outcomes within the health system. The director oversees construction projects including facility upgrades/improvement requiring remodel, renovation, and/or tenant improvement; plant and infrastructure projects requiring construction; equipment replacement and upgrades requiring construction; and regulatorily-required projects (e.g., seismic upgrades). Directly responsible for the planning and delivery of capital projects through implementation focused on on-time and on-budget delivery. Partners with project stakeholders, executive, and senior executive leadership to ensure successful project delivery focused on clear communication. Oversees team of senior project managers and project managers and support; leads hiring and training of project management team and support. Ensures submission of facility licensing documents with authorizing state agencies. Ensures project delivery teams follow Health System protocols including vendor registration and infection control. Collaborates with University Departments with allied functions including Facilities Planning & Management, as well as external architectural firms and construction companies. Collaborates significantly with project controls and finance functions within Department as well as aligned Health System departments and University departments if applicable.

Essential Duties:

  • Construction project leadership: Directly accountable for the project delivery and performance of all health system capital construction projects ensuring that capital projects are delivered on time and within the allocated budget.
  • Team leadership and development: oversight of team of project managers and support including hiring and training. Responsible for building and maintaining effective project management teams across the institution. Analyzes and resolves problems or assists staff in solving work problems.
  • Regular reporting: Ensures monthly project progress reporting for all capital construction projects assigned to team, and advises clients on project status. Follows with assigned team members to ensure work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Stakeholder communication: Collaborates with department leadership, project stakeholders, executive, and senior executive leadership to ensure clear communication and successful project delivery throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Regulatory compliance: Ensures submission of facility licensing documents with authorizing agencies
  • Financial management: Ensures comprehensive approach to project management that considers financial aspects and controls; collaborates with project controls and finance functions within the department, aligned Health System departments and University departments.
  • Health system protocols: Ensures that project delivery teams follow Health System protocols, including vendor registration and infection control.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Req Bachelor's degree Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management or other related field.
  • Req 12 years Progressive experience in planning, design, management and execution of construction projects including cost and schedule oversight and vendor and client relations
  • Req 10 years Demonstrated team leadership including hiring and performance oversight of team members both employed and contracted
  • Req 7 years Construction project management experience in California with state and local regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHPD/HCAI) and healthcare-specific regulation (e.g., CCR Title 24 as applied to hospitals and healthcare settings)
  • Req 5 years Communication/liaison experience to/with senior/executive leadership on project performance, opportunities, and risks
  • Req Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning and evaluation skills.
  • Req Organization/time management skills.
  • Req Demonstrates ability to utilize effective, appropriate and diplomatic oral and written communication skills.
  • Req Field of expertise: Progressive leadership/management within a college or university environment with fieldwork and/or licensure as architect.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pref Master's degree Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management or other related field.
  • Pref Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design Accreditation


Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Req Professional degree or certification in architecture, engineering, general contracting, and/or construction management.
  • Req Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The annual base salary range for this position is $133,120.00 - $219,648.00.
