Description

 Position Summary
The Tri-I TDI is seeking a Director of Chemistry to provide innovative scientific and drug development leadership to discovery teams comprised of internal and external contributors. The successful candidate will lead drug discovery research projects and be responsible for the design, synthesis and evaluation of target molecules that test program-specific hypotheses to efficiently advance complex research projects from early target validation / lead identification through animal proof of concept studies.
Position Activities
Provide scientific expertise and leadership on drug discovery research programs in collaboration with academic institutions and support collaborations with biotech/pharma/CRO partners
Support novel research programs in diverse stages ranging from target validation, hit-to-lead and lead optimization through preclinical proof-of-concept studies
Provide scientific mentoring and technical training of team members
Lead the effort for generating a data set for pre-clinical candidates to support a wide variety of indications with an emphasis on lead molecule optimization and proof-of-concept studies
Reports to the Vice President, Preclinical Development
Act as a leader in the laboratory, first formulating then executing on program and chemistry strategy by applying innovative synthetic chemistry and data analysis to design, synthesize and characterize potential drug candidates
Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, timeline management, identification of project risks and contingency planning, preparation of study/program related materials and other activities associated with their research programs
Actively represent the TDI within the scientific community
Performs other related duties as assigned.



Qualifications

 
Minimum Requirements
Extensive experience in synthesis, chemical biology, and physical organic chemistry is required
An established professional track record of solving complex drug discovery problems and comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
PhD in chemistry or biochemistry is required with at least five years of drug discovery experience in industry
Skill and Abilities
Strong interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills in addition to rigorous scientific thinking
Deep understanding of in vitro and in vivo pharmacology models coupled with an intimate appreciation for the critical issues ever-present in drug discovery and development
Highly organized and able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to independently solve problems related to CRO monitoring and management
