JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend is seeking applicants for Director of our newly established Center for Family Business. This organization will support the needs of family-owned businesses in Northwestern Pennsylvania. The Director of the Center for Family Business will oversee the Center’s daily operations, beginning by working closely with the Board to set the organization's strategic direction and oversee the annual strategic planning process and goal implementation.

 

The Director will also have fiduciary and budgetary responsibilities, including making key decisions on allocating center funds to ensure the center's sustainability while maximizing member benefits. These duties include securing sponsorships and leading fundraising initiatives to ensure the future of the Center’s legacy.

 

The Director will also have responsibility for the management of Center employees that will be responsible for implementing community programs, maintaining collaborative external relationships, and establishing connections between members and fellow stakeholders. This position will make key brand management decisions, including direction for marketing and strategic partnerships, and will work closely with the Associate Director to support Academic and Community programming.

 

This position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or higher (master’s degree preferred) in business or a related field and 4+ years of relevant experience, ideally at a managerial level. An equivalent combination or education and experience will also be considered. Experience working in higher education; experience working in or with family businesses; and possessing knowledge of the local business community and resources, family business issues, and trends is also desired. It is imperative that the successful candidate have the ability to act with professional discretion and understand different perspectives to solve problems and develop strategies for success.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and social and ethnic backgrounds

  • Intuitive and thoughtful decision-making skills

  • An appreciation of the big picture issues and ability to address them effectively

  • Ability to collaborate and build consensus among various constituents

  • Political savvy to foster progress within a government institution and the business world

  • Ability to establish trust

  • An understanding of the complexities and special dynamics that pervade family businesses and their service providers

  • Ability to delegate and proved direction to staff

  • Must have transportation for occasional regional travel

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, CRM, and CMS systems, and the ability to adapt to new software with minimal training

 

This is a limited term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with a possibility of re-funding.

The Black School of Business occupies a new $30 million facility with the School of Engineering providing a basis for multi-disciplinary educational experience for students, interdisciplinary research for faculty, and joint opportunities for industry engagement. The $20 million endowment, market value of which is approximately $44 million today, provides significant support for the School’s programs. The endowment helps fund undergraduate scholarships, graduate assistantships, library and information technology resources, outreach activities, several faculty chairs and endowed professorships, as well as new programming initiatives.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$56,200.00 - $81,500.00
