Job Summary
The Dr. Robert A. Savoie College of Engineering (COE) at the University of New Orleans (UNO) invites applications for the position of Director for the Center for Equity and Diversity in Engineering (CEDE@UNO). The Director will report to the Dean of the COE and will be a member of the senior personnel for a National Science Foundation (NSF) project which has been funded through the Broadening Participation in Engineering (BPE) program. The Director position will be full-time and is expected to start in January 2024.

Job Description

The objective of the NSF BPE project is to develop a more diverse engineering workforce through the establishment of a new Center for Equity and Diversity in Engineering (CEDE@UNO).  In order to achieve this objective, the Center's will increase the enrollment, retention, and graduation rates of engineering students from historically underrepresented groups while fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.

The Director of CEDE@UNO will have an integral role in all Center activities. In particular, the Director will have the following responsibilities:

  • Lead the outreach efforts for grades 8-12, in collaboration with college recruitment efforts

  • Manage the mentorship program for the Center

  • Manage the digital loan program for the Center

  • Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) and the co-PIs in all management aspects of the project

  • Collaborate with other stakeholders in the recruitment and retention of faculty and staff from historically underrepresented groups

  • Perform other duties as needed

In general, the Director is expected to work from 10:00am - 6:30pm, with some flexibility to work evening or weekend events.

Required Qualifications:

  • ​Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Education, Social Sciences, or related field

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Ability to collaborate and effectively communicate with campus stakeholders

  • Experience as a goal-oriented, hands-on practitioner

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree

  • Experience working in higher education, with diverse student, faculty, and staff, especially in roles associated with student success, support, and mentoring
