Position Description:

This position will be responsible for providing high-level budget and analytical support with budget preparation and analysis for the unit's overall budget as well as departments, centers, and other areas. This position will support the Dean of the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) in strategically advancing the operations of the College. The position will advise, support, assist, coordinate, and collaborate on initiatives for the Dean; coordinate the translation of initiatives and plans into action; and represent the interests and priorities of the Dean.

This role will operate as a key member of the Dean's senior leadership team, providing leadership and operational oversight in fulfilling the mission and priorities of the CEHD. This position will also oversee facilities and management of the Porter Building's upkeep and maintenance initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

45% - Lead Fiscal Officer

  • Serves as the academic unit's Lead Fiscal Officer ("LFO").
  • Responsible for the development and coordination of annual budgets.
  • Analyze data trends related to historical budget and actual performance to develop models to support unit and university initiatives and strategic goals.
  • Engage in continuous critical analysis of existing systems, policies, and processes; interpret internal policy and external regulations; and make recommendations to attain greater business management and efficiencies.
  • Coordinate budget analysis projects, including preparing budget estimates and implementing budget changes; analyze budget proposals for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with organizational objectives; determine strategies for managing resources to capitalize on funding opportunities and advancing priority initiatives; and conduct special projects and analyses relating to planning and budgeting as assigned.
  • Provide financial advice to the dean, associate and assistant deans, department chairs, center directors, and others as needed.
  • Monitor the unit's annual and monthly budget and financial activities, utilizing various data platforms (BAM, EAB, APS) for budget analytics.
  • Prepare budget analysis and projections related to revenue and expenses. Develop and prepare pro forma statements for unit academic programs and auxiliary units.
45% - Operations
  • Serve as the direct supervisor for the finance staff in the Dean's Office personnel (e.g., CEHD Business Unit Administrators, department Financial Unit Administrators, department Business Unit Administrators, work study students).
  • Serve as the direct supervisor for the human resources staff in the Dean's Office personnel (e.g., Human Resources Unit Coordinator, Human Resources Manager, student workers, etc.).
  • Oversee and approve all Human Resource Functions including staff recruitment, payroll, and assisting HR Manager with authorizations to hire, job description forms, pay adjustments/career progressions, and any equity/benchmark studies.
  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Dean's Office.
  • Assists the Dean in providing leadership and direction for the College's strategic plans by working to accomplish the goals, providing assistance, consultation, and analyses of key initiatives.
  • Manage the progress of projects, programs, initiatives, and activities designed to achieve the mission and strategic vision of the CEHD and align with those of the University.
  • Ensure matters requiring the attention of the Dean are thoroughly developed, researched, and evaluated; respond to routine inquiries and deputizes for the Dean, where appropriate.
  • Anticipate, identify, and troubleshoot issues of concern or significance; exercise discretion to provide timely information and necessary updates across multiple stakeholders.
  • Prepare agendas, facilitate weekly leadership meetings, and monitor actions to ensure implementation.
  • Build and maintain successful working relationships and coordinate with offices, staff, and stakeholders, internal and external to the University.
  • Travel with and accompany the Dean for engagements as necessary.
  • Represents the Dean in selected internal and external interactions with faculty, staff, students, alumni, as well as university guests, visitors, and VIPs.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information as appropriate.
  • Oversee the CEHD facilities, specifically the Porter Building's upkeep and maintenance initiatives.
  • Supervise assigned personnel within the Dean's Office.
10% - Other Duties as assigned

Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Dean.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in related field and ten years of leadership or supervisory experience
  • Proven experience working with senior leadership in higher education
  • Exceptionally high standards for internal customer relations
  • Proven leadership, supervisory, and administrative experience required
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with, motivate, and lead staff
  • Goal-oriented self-starter who can work effectively with minimal direction and supervision
  • Skilled in a range of technology platforms
  • Possess proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Have experience with and knowledge of working in BAM, WorkdayHR/Finance, PeopleSoft, Quickbooks
  • Possess a minimum of five years of experience in higher education or university setting
  • Have effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Target Compensation Maximum: $139,700

Target Compensation Minimum: $93,100

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
