Director, Academic Business Development/Relationships

The Director plays a significant role in driving Babson Academy’s revenue related to the university markets in global entrepreneurship education. Specifically responsible for proactively generating new business in line with Babson Academy strategy by building relationships with selected prospect universities (or related clients) and ensuring client needs are met and are aligned with Babson’s mission of bringing its methodology of Entrepreneurial Thought & Action and entrepreneurship education to the world.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Collaborates with the Babson Academy leadership and other Babson leaders to establish current and future market opportunities.
  • Effectively communicates and sells the full solution capabilities of our educator and university portfolio to build the number and scale of clients; prepares proposals for new business and pitches new proposals to prospective clients.
  • Closes sales, agreements/contracts, and transitions to program management function.
  • Fosters and solidifies long term relationships with current and prospective clients to ensure continuous growth of business within the university.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with internal and external service stakeholders to ensure efficient, top-quality delivery of services. 
  • Attends meetings and gatherings in the region to build awareness and visibility of Babson and the Babson Academy to create solutions for university-based entrepreneurship education challenges. 
  • Communicates customer needs to faculty and program managers to guarantee appropriate curriculum development and delivery of programs.
  • Plans and conducts sales calls with faculty, Dean, Associate Dean, or other parties as needed.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.

WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOUR WILL NEED

Bachelor’s Degree

A minimum of 10-15 years in a similar role selling high-priced, intangible/conceptual products with long sales cycle.

Must have extensive consulting background with deep experience in consultative sales

Must have strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with particular emphasis on listening skills

Ability to take a highly consultative approach with the ability to lead need analysis and provide feedback and leadership in defining client needs

Must be financially literate in understanding pricing models and hurdles for profitability

Must be results oriented and achievement driven

Ability to “close” client opportunities

Must understand how to use the marketing function in the service of business development

Must have experience in the adult learning field

Must have excellent oral, written, and verbal communication skills

Ability to work with executives, business school faculty and HR professionals, entrepreneurs, educators, and other constituencies

Must have strong selling, negotiation, and presentation skills

Must have the ability to envision and propose new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; take thoughtful risks; and accept new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.

Must have the ability to anticipate and embrace change; demonstrate willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and be flexible in changing conditions.

Must have strong administrative/project management and organizational skills to ensure timely and coordinated approach through the program life cycle

HOW AND WHERE YOU WILL WORK

Ability to work fully remotely.

Ability to travel globally.

Must have had a valid unrestricted U.S. Driver’s License for one year, and maintain throughout employment an insurable (as determined by the College’s insurer’s criteria) or a satisfactory driving record; must successfully complete and pass the College’s vehicle training program within the first 60 days of employment; annual or more frequent review of employee’s driving record based on the College insurer’s criteria; and safety training as required by management.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS YOU MAY HAVE

  • MBA preferred
  • Fluency in a second language preferred

In accordance with applicable law, the following represents a reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation for this role:

Hiring range is $122,500-$135,909 which includes base plus bonus plan.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
