Position Summary:
 
The Digital and Online Teaching (DOT) team at the Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation (DTEI) is devoted to supporting faculty in designing pedagogical innovations with generative AI, digital tools, and emerging technologies to foster student engagement and inclusive excellence. Our goal is to increase the faculty's confidence in digital pedagogy and course design for various modes of teaching, raise awareness of digital learning excellence and quality online teaching, and support digital innovations at UC Irvine.

 


Under the general supervision of the Director of Digital and Online Teaching, the Digital Innovation Specialist plays a vital role in cultivating an innovative digital learning environment at UC Irvine. Partnering with the online pedagogy specialist, the Digital Innovation Specialist provides consultation and support to facilitate faculty in envisioning the possibility of digital tools from a pedagogical perspective by designing teaching and learning elements and samples to enhance the student learning experience. They will assist faculty in creating innovative learning experiences, identifying the appropriate use of learning technologies, and helping them meet the pedagogical goals that support the various learning needs of all students. Uses skills of instructional design and multimedia development as an experienced professional to help shape curricular content into coherent instructional modules that employ multimedia and a variety of interactive, web-based tools aimed at encouraging the engagement of students and other learners in knowledge acquisition. Demonstrates high degree of collaboration and diplomacy as well as problem analysis and creative solutions. Solves complex content or delivery related issues in collaboration with technical teams. Interacts with senior internal and external personnel. Normally receives little direction for ongoing course development assignments.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $66,700.00 - $95,000.00 (Annual Salary). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $66,700.00 - $118,500.00 (Annual Salary).

Required:
 
  • At least 2 years of experience: Experience in providing faculty teaching consultation and support Experience in developing faculty development programs or training workshops Experience in adopting generative AI and learning technologies for teaching, preferred Experience in building an online course on LMS – Canvas 
  • Experience in online course development. College Teaching experience, preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Thorough knowledge of functional area and understands how work within one course may impact work being done on other courses or in other areas. 
  • Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and strong collaboration and negotiation skills. 
  • Thorough knowledge of organization policies and procedures, including policies that impact all aspects of online and hybrid course development and digital active teaching practice. 
  • Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backwards design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc. 
  • Thorough knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems. 
  • Thorough knowledge of applying adult learning theories and educational methodologies. 
  • Thorough knowledge of e-learning strategies including but not limited to courses (e.g., processes and technologies, etc.). 
  • Advanced level skills in application of planning, resourcing and monitoring of effective design life cycles of training and other learning and performance solutions to support the organization. 
  • Knowledge to conduct appropriate job and task analyses in the context of instructional design of technical or specialized training. 
  • Experience in supporting faculty in designing inclusive learning environment with emerging technologies 
  • Familiar with how generative AI tools can be used to enhance learning experience 
  • Thorough knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning.
     

Preferred:
 
  • Master’s degree in instructional design or related areas and /or equivalent experience / training.
  • Instructional designer experience for a higher education institution. College teaching experience. 
  • Familiar with ADA policy and copyright and fair use guidelines with experience in creating accessible instructional materials and web pages. 
  • Familiar with Quality Matters Rubric and/or OLC Quality Scorecard. Experience in managing department communication on web platforms, blog, social media, etc..
