Job Description Summary:
The Office of Communications and Marketing is comprised of a high performing team responsible for advancing the university’s reputation and telling GW’s story through a diverse array of university channels, including digital and web properties and publications, multimedia and web properties, creative services, publications, media relations and paid marketing efforts across the university. This office drives the strategy and tactics for showcasing and raising the visibility of the university’s experts, initiatives, and accomplishments.
The Office of Communications and Marketing is currently seeking a Digital Content Specialist to assist in the operation of various university social media presences.
This position is responsible for developing and implementing content strategies and tactics for social media, updating and monitoring social media channels and analytics, and coordinating and assisting colleagues across the university with social media. This position works closely with communications and marketing leads to plan and execute integrated campaigns and to establish effective processes and workflows within the school/unit.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing various types of content for web, social media, or other digital platforms. The candidate must be a strong, detail-oriented writer with a demonstrated understanding of traditional and emerging social media platforms.
This position will write and edit content for social media and other digital platforms, work closely with photo and video teams to ensure assets are optimized for web and social media, coordinate closely with school and unit communications and marketing leads to develop a content calendar for web and social media channels, and manage, upload and refresh content on social media and other digital platforms.
The position stays up to date on digital platforms and social media channels and trends to inform strategies and tactics.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience creating content calendars, running social media accounts with high follower counts, and experience using a social media management platform such as Sprout or Hootsuite desired.
  • Experience participating in the development of multimedia-focused content for social media and web is preferred.
  • Be available outside of typical work schedule to serve as a designated employee is desired.
  • To update appropriate university channels with university-wide crisis communications as situations warrant.
