Job Description:
  • Provide nutrition therapy for genetic metabolic patients seen in Pediatric Genetics clinics or when they are hospitalized in-patients. The coordinator will review the medical records and make recommendations to the MD regarding the appropriate nutrition therapy. Will work with the MD geneticist and genetic counselor to coordinate patients and arrange for laboratory testing to ensure that the appropriate nutrition therapy is provided. In some cases, he/she might be performing some assessments on patients, such as, obtaining weights, heights, and completing finger/heel sticks for lab tests. Provides 24/7 on-call services shared amongst other in person division metabolic dietitians.

  • Assist with contacting referrals from the Newborn Screening Program and coordinating confirmatory testing. Tracks all NBS cases and collates cases into quarterly reports for contract submission. Completes food pantry inventory and purchasing as part of our state contract. Tracks food pantry expenditures and collates that plus inventory for quarterly contract submission.

  • Work with other agencies to ensure that the appropriate nutrition therapy is maintained. This may include developing letters of medical necessity, arranging prescriptions for medical foods and labs, ordering medical foods from state pharmacy. Advocates for continued coverage and services for patients. 

  • Oversee the overall activities of the Pediatric Genetics program as it relates to the provision of nutrition services.
  • Provide educational lectures to medical students, residents, and nurses about the nutrition therapy of metabolic genetic disorders. Acts as a clinical preceptor to the UF masters dietetic students.

  • Participate in research associated with the care of children with metabolic genetic disorders.
Expected Salary:

$60,000 - $65,000, consummate within this range based on qualifications and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Must meet the requirements of Chapter 468, Florida Statutes, and have one year of appropriate experience. Licensed as a Dietitian in accordance with Chapter 468, Florida Statutes.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree and two years of appropriate experience in nutrition or public health
  • Preferred experience in pediatric nutrition.
  • Must be a Registered Dietician and be licensed to practice nutrition/dietetics in the State of Florida.

Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Share on-call on evenings and weekends for after hours contact with metabolic patients and physicians and provision of nutrition care plans on weekends for inpatients. Additional compensation for on-call duties exceeding 17 weeks per year.
