Education/Training
Bachelor's degree in a related field, or four years of equivalent technical experience required.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
LEVEL 1:
Current N.C. driver's license may be required.
CCNA Certification preferred.
LEVEL 2 AND LEVEL 3
In addition to the certifications described for the Level 1,the Level 2 and Level 3:
CCIE/CCNP/CISSP certification preferred
Experience
Level 1 - No experience required beyond the minimum education (or equivalency) requirement.
Level 2 - Two years of related experience is required.
Level 3 - Four years of related experience is required.
Skills
LEVEL 1:
Extensive knowledge level / skill set of physical networking and telecommunications best practices, technologies and services.
Ability to troubleshoot Layer1 and Layer2 network issues.
Fundamental knowledge of cabling, fiber, network devices, fault and availability management.
Cabling infrastructure and installation, Network device Installation, Deployment, Monitoring and Configuration preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills and strong abilities to develop and enhance relationships with team members, other technical staff, customers and internal groups.
Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms.
Excellent judgment and decision-making skills.
Excellent analytical abilities and innovative problem-solving skills.
May be required to lift up to 100 pounds.
May be required to drive personal vehicle to conduct Duke business/deliver and install equipment.
LEVEL 2:
In addition to the KSAs described for the Level 1, the Level 2 will demonstrate the following:
Must have production experience in the entire lifecycle of IP networks.
Expert level knowledge of L1/L2/L3 network technologies, VoIP/Video technologies such as Quality of Service (QOS), DSCP/DiffServ/COS, MPLS, OSPF and wireless technologies.
Cisco Networking and IP routing (MPLS, OSPF).
Level 3 knowledge and configuration / administration of network management tools including: CA Spectrum, Infoblox, Cacti and various OpenSourceTools, Cisco WCS/NCS, etc.
Extensive hands on experience setting up IP networks to guarantee highly available and robust networking (including automatic failover and notification, traffic analysis, QoS and policy based routing).
Extensive knowledge of network security technologies (ASA firewalls, VPN concentrators, IPS, logging & extensive ACLs).
Extensive knowledge of DNS, DHCP and IP protocols, Infoblox.
May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
LEVEL 3
In addition to the KSAs described for the Level 2, the Level 3 will demonstrate the following:
Extensive knowledge (subject matter expert) skill set of networking/voice/video/security technologies and services.
Extensive knowledge of core Cisco products and technologies (Nexus/MPLS), in addition, VPN, STP, IPSEC, CBWFQ, SRST.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, performed by a diverse group of professionals.
