Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose
The Development Research Analyst is responsible for independently performing research, analysis, and presentation of financial and biographic information on major donor prospects (capacity of $25K+) in support of a comprehensive fundraising program. Curates initial written report and continuing maintenance of research findings to help inform strategy used in cultivation of major donors to support University funding and donor interests. This position leads the production and execution of the preparation of event briefs for donor-related events.
Proactively develops and implements processes to identify new prospective major donors to the University. Regularly reviews and prioritizes newly identified prospects and presents recommendations to senior leadership to help build the pipeline of potential University donors. Assists with prospect management and oversight of development team portfolios and prospect assignments.
Essential Functions
  • Interpret and synthesize large volumes of information and complex financial, legal and technical language into easily comprehensible information.
  • Independently analyzes and assesses extensive and complex financial, philanthropic, and biographic data including property acquisitions and sales, securities, and other wealth indicators to identify and qualify major gift prospects.
  • Compile and strategically curate highly customized biographical and financial research, and writes a variety of research documents and reports for University leadership, frontline fundraisers, and other internal clients to help build donor relationships and increase giving to Pacific.
  • Develop effective research strategies to utilize an expansive set of resources and to refine further intelligence-gathering techniques. Evaluate research tools and emerging technologies and keep abreast of trends in the field of prospect research.
  • Refine and utilize gift capacity models to calculate potential of individual donors to provide major and leadership level gifts.
  • Creates strategy and implements processes for continuing identification of potential new donors to the University and is responsible for effective presentation of newly identified prospects to senior leadership and frontline fundraisers.
  • Utilizes constituent data and predictive modeling tools to identify prospective donors for Development officers to qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward.
  • Participate in the maintenance and utilization of the prospect management and research components of the Development data systems which currently include Ellucian Banner, Argos, Advizor and Gravyty.
  • Proactively identifies constituents and prepares detailed profiles for critical leadership roles such as Regents and Advisory Board members.
  • Determines key constituents for Presidential and Vice Presidential consideration and provides materials for leadership’s personal meetings with constituents in a timely manner.
  • Train users on donor and research related platforms, processes and protocols.
  • Takes proactive steps to remain informed of current best practices in Prospect Research and Management. Responsible for researching tools and sources to streamline and improve the research process interacting through professional research organizations and active participation in listservs to develop and maintain a network with peers.
  • Assists in the implementation of Prospect Management procedures and collaborates with the associated team to help build and maintain robust portfolios for frontline fundraisers.
  • Ensures research related data is accurately stored in University data systems and electronic files. Ensures storage of research related information adheres to all national, state, and University privacy standards and information security protocols.
  • Works with other University Divisions and departments (including but not limited to Admissions, Registrar and University Library) to maintain accurate constituent and prospect information.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Two (2) years of full time experience in the same/similar position is equal to one (1) year of completed post high school education coursework).
  • One (1) year of experience in research and writing.
  • Computer and internet literate and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of experience as a prospect researcher.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a detail oriented environment where professional writing is conducted; Prospect Research and/or Development experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and analytically.
  • Ability to compile, write, and present reports and prospective donor analysis displaying attention to detail.
  • Encompass traits of good judgment, confidentiality and discretion in communicating with colleagues and constituents.
  • Experience in a university or nonprofit fundraising office.
  • Functional knowledge of database systems, preferably Ellucian’s Banner system or other fundraising software and programs.
  • Exceptional written communication skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible in working independently as well as collaboratively with University Development, Alumni Relations, academic faculty and staff to achieve defined goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize workload, manage multiple projects concurrently, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment.
  • Positive attitude, proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and able to participate in a complex Development program, especially within an educational organization.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining the security of confidential and sensitive information, preferably donor or financial information.
  • Demonstrated experience in an operation that utilizes a prospect management and tracking system.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting research on individuals, corporations and foundations.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with use of computer and phone.
Work performed during standard business hours. Additional hours may be required to meet business needs or deadlines. Occasional travel for professional development conferences and seminars.
Hiring Range $23.90 - $31.67 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
