Manages a portfolio of major gifts donors and prospects in support of university-wide initiatives or for one or more assigned colleges or units. Possesses a high level of knowledge and expertise on major gifts and fundraising in general, and at least a mid-level knowledge of planned giving.Job Duties

  • Manages a portfolio of prospects which are mostly at the level of $100,000 or more.
  • Identifies, cultivates and solicits prospects and stewards donors; works with faculty, staff and volunteers as appropriate.
  • Provides guidance to the college or unit on major gifts and other development and fundraising matters.
  • If assigned to a college or unit, may be responsible for creating and implementing a development plan for components within the assigned college, including resource management.
  • May administer other advancement activities, such as alumni relations, publications, special events, media relations, etc. for assigned college or unit.
  • Participates in University-wide development activities as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.

    Additional Information/Preferred Qualifications:

    University of Houston is seeking a creative, entrepreneurial, and collaborative professional to join the fundraising team for our health colleges. In addition to the duties and requirements outlined above:

    • Develops strategies and leads the solicitation of major gifts for three health colleges (Nursing, Optometry and Pharmacy) and institutional priorities.

    • In collaboration with the prospect research team, and by using own research tools and practices, continues to identify new major and leadership gift prospects to build donor pipeline.

    • Collaborates with college department chairs, program directors, faculty and staff to prepare and submit private funding proposals.

    • Create, coordinate, and execute customized engagement opportunities for current and prospective donors, including but not limited to campus tours, meetings with students and/or faculty, celebration events, salon dinners, etc.

    • Utilizes constituent relationship management database to coordinate donor plans and donor recognition as well as report on progress of activity.

    • Experience in higher education and/or health care is preferred, but not required.

     

    Qualifications

     

    Bachelors and 5 years experience

    Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.
