Job Summary
Auburn Advancement is excited to begin the search for a Development Officer to join our development team at the Harbert College of Business and College of Human Sciences!The ideal candidate is self-motivated, metrics driven, and possesses an innate ability to get things done. As a Development Professional, you will have the opportunity to travel extensively and conduct face-to-face visits with alumni and supporters. This position helps connect these individuals back to the College and University in a philanthropic way that is meaningful to them, while making an everlasting impact at Auburn University. This position is responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift prospects. The individual should be a team player who can manage their own job duties and responsibilities, but is willing to assist with special projects, initiatives, events and other duties as necessary.

Essential Functions
  • Identifies potential major giving prospects for cultivations through research, initial contact ratings, peer reviews, and other relevant resources.
  • Solicits gifts through person-to-person visits, group presentations, and/or phone calls.
  • Provides stewardship to include acknowledging and showing gratitude for donating either by letter, phone call, and/or participating in/attending events and functions for donors.
  • Updates and informs supervisors and other staff of goal status, new plans, project proposals, and ensures that a cooperative team effort is made to meet goals and objectives.
  • Meet with advancement colleagues and university partners, including athletics, to discuss major donor prospects and strategy.
  • Complete and file reports of all contacts promptly through Auburn University Advancement systems and processes.
  • Assist with various fundraising activities including board meetings and special events.
  • Participate in special projects, programs, initiatives and other duties as assigned.
  • Assist with key volunteer groups and boards within the college.
  • May develop campaigns and/or presentations proposals related to funding priorities to keep top prospects informed, interested, involved, and to meet advancement goals and objectives.
  • Secures an appropriate level of private support in relationship to goals.
  • The nature of this role is highly externally focused, requiring frequent travel and meetings on and off campus during regular and non-traditional business hours, and is therefore expected to operate with high levels of autonomy.

Development Officer I ($51, 900 – $88,200)
Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of experience in fundraising, marketing, sales, and/or public relations

Development Officer II
($56,300 – $101,300)
Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of experience in fundraising, marketing, sales, and/or public relations

Development Officer III
($64,700 – $116,500)
Bachelor’s degree plus 6 years of experience in fundraising, marketing, sales, and/or public relations

Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications


Minimum Skills and Abilities
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with a diverse client base.
  • Experience calling, conducting face-to-face appointments, managing relationships, creating, and presenting proposals, and other fundamental elements of client/donor relationship or sales-related activities.
  • Demonstrated communications and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on engaged listening, and success working in a team setting.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Must be able and willing to work some weekends, evenings, and to travel.
  • Must have a commitment to an inclusive and diverse campus environment.
