Position Description:

Clinical Instructor - Department of Psychiatry


The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is seeking a Clinical Instructor with a clinical focus in inpatient psychiatry. The position is by annual appointment renewable yearly depending on performance for up to 3 years. Successful candidate will participate in the patient care and teaching missions of UI Healthcare. Clinical research and scholarship activities are encouraged but not essential. Compensation includes University-approved base salary and generous productivity-based bonus.


All members of the Psychiatry faculty group share weekday, weekend and holiday coverage of the inpatient and consult services. We will work closely with you to optimize your time in any preferred care settings. 


The UI Department of Psychiatry has a long tradition of excellence in research, a well-developed research infrastructure, and ample patient populations that support efforts in a variety of areas of investigation. These include studies in neuroimaging, genetics, epidemiology, psychopharmacology, neuropsychology, and basic neuroscience. The Department of Psychiatry is made up of more than 90 full-time faculty members who provide national and international leadership across a range of psychiatric areas, such as child psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, eating disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, medical psychiatry, and community psychiatry.

Education Requirement:

  • Candidates must have an MD degree or equivalent and have completed accredited post-graduate psychiatry training in the US or abroad.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least five years of practice post graduate psychiatry training and eligibility for an Iowa Medical License

  • Authorization to work as a physician in the United States.
