Position Summary
Indiana University Bloomington Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics invites applications for a Bioinformatics Postdoctoral Fellow position, with a special focus on computational modeling. The successful candidate will join a team of researchers engaged in Respiratory Health Research, but previous experience in respiratory health research is not required. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Kedir Turi as well as other faculty co-mentors and collaborators at Indiana University Bloomington. The candidate is expected to be self-motivated and able to work independently. The salary and benefits are competitive and include funding for conference-related participation. During the period of the fellowship, the fellow is expected to work on campus. The candidate is expected to begin by April 1, 2024 but may be flexible.

Basic Qualifications
Qualifications:
§ Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology, Computer Science, or a related field. Applicants nearing the completion of their doctorate will also be considered.
§ Demonstrated expertise in computational modeling of biological systems, data analysis, and algorithm development.
§ Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or equivalent.
§ Strong background in statistical analysis and familiarity with machine learning approaches.
§ Proven ability to handle and interpret large-scale molecular and biological datasets.
§ Record of scientific publications in relevant areas.
§ Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
§ Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment.

Additional Qualifications
Responsibilities:
§ Develop and apply advanced computational models to analyze and interpret biological data, such as genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic datasets.
§ Utilize and improve upon existing modeling frameworks or develop novel algorithms for the simulation and analysis of biological systems.
§ Collaborate with experimental biologists to validate models and refine hypotheses.
§ Utilize large electronic health record datasets (such as UKBiobank, All of Us Study, Indiana Biobank), employing statistical techniques and machine learning for data analysis and predictive modeling.
§ Author scientific papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at conferences.
§ Participate in the mentoring of graduate students and potentially supervise technical staff.
