Job Summary:

Join the Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) as a Department Manager. This position is a key member of the school’s Department of Environmental & Occupational Health and will provide critical administrator support through fiscal management, budget monitoring, human and capital resources, communication, event planning, and general management of the day-to-day operations of the department.

  The Department Manager will play a major role in proactively anticipating operational/administrative issues, suggesting a range of options with an analysis of advantages and disadvantages, and recommending solutions to the Department Chair. This position will work with department faculty to manage support for educational, research, and service activities, as well as serve as the primary liaison among departmental faculty, various other ColoradoSPH departments, and CU Anschutz organizational units.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide fiscal management of funds by creating department budgets in conjunction with the Chair; monitor assigned budgets/funds through reports, projections, and expenditure reviews.
  • Ensure that department faculty and staff are properly allocated to budgets; manage payroll processing for faculty and staff, as well as faculty compensation and salaries.
  • Prepare expense reports for faculty.
  • Schedule and coordinate department activities (e.g., annual back to school event, research and practice exchanges, annual reviews, receptions) and department meetings (faculty meetings, Department Appointments, committees).
  • Serve as the primary communication liaison between the department and other ColoradoSPH and CU Anschutz units; manage the department email inbox.
  • Provide day-to-day support to the Program Directors of the graduate and professional educational programs (e.g., create student tracking systems and progress reports, coordinate applications, assist with scheduling of advising meetings).
  • Work closely with ColoradoSPH Office of Human Resources and Faculty Affairs in hiring and recruiting full-time staff, conducting faculty searches, and hiring student and temporary employees.

  This is a full-time position and reports to the Department Chair. 

Work Location:

Hybrid – This position is located on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO and is eligible to work a hybrid schedule with at least two days of the week that can be worked from home.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, business administration, finance, accounting, education, social sciences, healthcare administration, public administration, communications, information systems, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Four (4) years of extensive, diverse, and progressively responsible professional experience.

A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

  Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, public health administration, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience at the management level, including direct responsibility for HR or financial systems such as PeopleSoft HRMS, Concur, and/or Marketplace within a complex health-related research or higher education setting.
  • Experience in health administration, human resources and financial management.
  • Experience with procurement procedures; direct experience with University or State procurement procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Outstanding organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Demonstrated ability to self-manage priorities and be proactive in resolving issues.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of business and accounting practices, including knowledge and use of accounting systems.
  • Proficiency in financial management and the ability to manage funds from a variety of sources.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via written and verbal communication with faculty members, professional staff, and constituents.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to plan, organize, implement, and coordinate complex operational activities.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE $72,617 - $89,000.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
