Position Summary Information


Objective
Serves as a Business Department Head within the Business & Mathematics Division.
Essential Duties
Works with the Dean and Assistant Dean in the areas of coordination, admissions, registration, database maintenance, textbook ordering, curriculum resource team meetings, and graduation activities in response to service area needs, for the defined instructional area.
Assists in the promotion of activities, strategies, and processes that prepare students for success while meeting the requirements of all internal and external accreditation entities.
Coordinates the specific academic areas assigned – in terms of planning, development, implementation, and evaluation.
Monitor web site for changes and updates, and communicate the changes back to the Dean and Assistant Dean.
Work with the Assistant Dean to prepare schedules that meet student needs.
Collaborate with the Dean, Assistant Dean, CRT, and faculty members to develop or improve new programs and program-improvement initiatives.
Mediate faculty-student conflict and communicate with Assistant Dean.
Ensure that new faculty have the proper documentation, orientation, and mentoring to successfully meet student needs.
Support Assistant Dean in the interview process.
Serve on College Committees as assigned.
Facilitate decision-making between campuses and disciplines.
Collect assessment documents and ensure that these are turned in to the CRTs and Assessment Coordinators on time.
Implement Student Perceptions of Instruction (SPOIs) and oversee data entry and analysis.
Inspect rooms and equipment for repairs and maintenance.
Serves as a coordinator for applied programming helping to administer and facilitate programming as required by the Guidelines for Instructional Programs in Workforce Education (GIPWE).
Oversees coordination of applied programming at the Federal Prison Camp.
Accepts other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be a current Blinn College Full Time Faculty member.
Master’s degree with academic credentials in accounting, business, or economics from a regionally accredited college or university.
2 years post-secondary teaching experience.
The ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
An understanding and commitment to the mission of the comprehensive community college.
Ability to make timely decisions appropriate to the situation and circumstances. Meet deadlines for assigned reports and projects.
Strong commitment to innovative teaching, active learning, and the use of technology to support the delivery of instruction in all modalities.
Capacity to mediate student-faculty conflicts in a responsive manner.
Ability to listen, understand, and respond positively to requests and concerns from students, parents, and members of the academic community.
Capability to create a team–oriented climate with a specific discipline area(s) and build/maintain relationships with compassion and sensitivity – while demonstrating a cooperative, professional attitude.
Ability to interact effectively as a discipline/program specific leader of an academic team and work collaboratively with others. Foster a collegial work environment and work effectively with a diverse community.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office and Windows software, integrated software systems, and related instructional technology.
Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
Ability to safeguard sensitive and/or confidential information from intentional or unintentional disclosures.
Demonstrated commitment to the philosophy of the college.
Preferred Experience and Training
Diverse teaching experiences in higher education.
Supervisory experience in a community college or a higher education institution related to a specific discipline/program.
Experience in mentoring new faculty and developing and enhancing faculty skills through effective evaluation.
Knowledge of Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) policies governing colleges and of federal and state laws affecting community colleges, including experience with institutional accreditation process and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC).
Physical Requirements
Required Degree, License or Certifications
As required by THECB and SACSCOC specifications for faculty of academic transfer courses in accounting, business, or economics.
Special Notes To Applicants
The individual selected for this position will receive a 10-month contract, a $3,000 stipend for each long semester (Fall and Spring) and instructional releases of 6 ILUs per long semester.
Administrative Duty is scheduled by the instructional dean according to divisional need and the 10th month may be assigned as non-contiguous days. With the approval of the Dean the Department Head may teach additional classes if it does not interfere with the assigned 10th month.

The College assigns appropriately credentialed faculty members in support of educational quality and the mission of the College, in keeping with Board policy DBA LOCAL-X (Employment Requirements and Restrictions – Credentials and Records: Credentials). College policy is consistent with sound educational practice and SACSCOC guidelines. Primary consideration is given to the highest degree earned in the discipline.
